Two Ones is a sublime encounter between GhostChant’s previous musical life as a post-Burial intricate beatmaker (his debut album ‘Sincerity’ is due to be reissued on Tangential later this year) and the more relaxed zone of music-making that he currently inhabits. LA beach blues transposed through the eyes of a UKG producer with lush keyboards, stunning echoey guitar lines, soothing pitched-up vocals, skittering beats and a deep dubby bass that should warm the hearts of fans of artists such as John Carroll Kirby and Carlos Niño.

What does techno look like in its purest form? Clear in its structure. Credible in its message. With an insistent beat in the background. With its heart in the right place. And its melody in the tips of the never-ending goosebumps.Those who know, are aware of that. Those who can, do it. At Complexed Records they've only been doing just that since 2014. But they do it with a sound that embodies such determination that it could just as well come from the good old days in the beginning. That's primarily down to label boss Drumcomplex, who in this short period and with very few artists has established a reputation that has projected virtually every new release into the playlists of the major players. And in the process he and his label have themselves grown to become a major force.It's as if Complexed Records hit the nerve of an age which was not openly calling out for a powerful breath of techno past, yet still seems relieved to hear it. Or rather, to absorb it. Who would have thought a few years ago that once again a new techno label would be established and experience such a meteoric rise. But let's leave the past in peace. Let's look to the future. A glittering future with packed dance floors, on which visionaries once again celebrate music as a unifying element as they dance together into the early hours, with gratified smiles on their faces.
