Surreal Faces Group returns this week with their latest release I AMMA JAMMA recorded live at Hawk’s Place in the Southern California Desert. This is where the acid kicks in and we do a bit of both shorter songs as well as jam hard when we needed to!

The record starts off with a brand new, first time played Bongwrecker penned ‘Janky’, a funky ode to mid/bottom shelf herbs. The band excelled at the improv funk, leading into others like ‘Boom Box’, ‘Staring At the Moon’ and a blistering Spaceadelic Desert Jazz laced ‘Am I Going Fast Enough’.

No covers in this set, all original music written by us!

example of the Desert Jazz spelunking exercise, diving into the depths of progressive-stoner rock as you engage with the band as they ravage through a mind-numbing array of improvisation in its haziest form.

Surreal Faces Group returns with massive live album recorded on May 13 of 2024 featuring keyboardist/trumpeter/melodica player Troy Story, who sat in with the band the entire evening and provided so much desired noise and space filling that added a whole new depth to the band! Troy’s impressive instrumental range is conveyed in his performance, which doesn’t often include improv desert jazz psychedelic stoner-rock, as he certainly left the band floored with his take on the songs.

Watch as the band tears through multiple hits, like a melodic Herb Albert-type ‘Staring At The Moon’, a melancholy and serene performance of a lengthy ‘Ferret Dance’ and a funky stab at ‘The Craw Side Jamma’ that leaves you breathless!

Primal examples of musical collaborations with accompanying sonic explorations of familiar materials, all earthbound from the cosmos, drenched in herbal odors and smoke filled receptacles, harking a throwback to the Progressive Rock and Jam Band cultures, mixed in with strange and unusual places to create an atmosphere of improvisational art, surrounded by large amplifiers, loud bass guitars, thunderous drums and a swirling homage to genre-bending jam sessions of dizzying psychedelia and metallic mayhem.
