放課後、部活もなくて帰宅部の私には、ゆっくりできる時間がある。今日はその貴重な自由時間に、ずっと楽しみにしていたことがあるんだ。そう、アルバイト代が入ったから、自分へのご褒美をしようって決めていた。どこに行くかは、もう決まっている。

駅前にある有名なカフェ、「ラ・シェリー」。ここはいつも人が並んでいて、人気店として知られている。特に、その店のスペシャルパフェは有名で、写真を見ただけでも食べたくなるような魅力がある。私は前からそのパフェが大好きで、疲れた日や頑張った日のご褒美にしている。でも、今月はちょっとアルバイトを頑張ったから、今日のパフェは特別に感じる。

カフェの入り口で待っていると、ちょうど気になってるクラスメイトの田中君が同じ駅前を通り過ぎた。彼とはあまり話したことはないし、特別に好きというわけじゃないけど、なんとなく目で追ってしまう。でも、今日は一人でのんびりするって決めたから、彼のことは気にしないことにする。

店内に案内されて、窓際の席に座った。窓の外からは少し秋の風が吹き込んできて、心地よい。店員さんに「フルーツパフェ、お願いします」と注文する。このパフェは季節ごとにフルーツが変わるんだけど、今日は秋の味覚がたっぷりと使われているらしい。

しばらくして、目の前に現れたのは、大きなグラスにぎっしり詰まったフルーツたちが輝くパフェ。上には、瑞々しいリンゴと洋ナシ、栗のクリームがふんわりとかかっていて、見るからに豪華だ。グラスの中には、少し酸味のあるベリーソースがアクセントとして入っていて、口に入れるとフルーツの甘さとソースの爽やかさが広がる。何層にも分かれたアイスクリームとクリームの層が、どれも違った食感で楽しいし、少し下に進むと、サクサクのシリアルが隠れていて、最後まで飽きずに食べられる。

一口食べるたびに、今日は本当に頑張って良かったって思える。バイトで疲れた時も、友達と笑い合ったり、お客さんからの「ありがとう」に元気づけられたりして、それが今のこの幸せに繋がっているんだなって感じる。フルーツの甘さが舌の上で溶けると、自然と笑みがこぼれる。

「ああ、この時間、最高だな」って心の中でつぶやく。

田中君のことを思い出しながらも、今は私だけの特別な時間。自分を大切にするって、こんなに気持ちいいんだって、パフェを食べながら改めて思った。自分へのご褒美って、たまにはいいものだよね。
