Soulscape (1996)

My cover of "Alberto Balsalm" (originally by Aphex Twin from his 1995 album "...I Care Because You Do"), written & produced by myself back in 1998 during the pre-internet days of BBSs, using FastTracker 2 and my own sample set—trying to capture the spirit and texture of the original track.

It was released by Tokyo Dawn Records (TDR), which at the time was a pioneering internet-only label known for its forward-thinking electronic and drum & bass releases. TDR has since evolved into something different, but back in the late '90s and early 2000s, they were a key part of the online tracker music scene.

The original .XM file has been preserved thanks to the great folks at The Mod Archive. You can download and inspect it here:

so didnt finish it before 2022.

There's been several aspects of the original mix from 2003 that has annoyed me over the years because of fast pace tracking/sloppy work :)
