🎵  Essence and Origin
Raqs Baladi (رَقص بلدي) literally means “dance of the country” or “folk dance.”
It is the root form of Egyptian belly dance, born from rural social dances that migrated into the cities — especially Cairo — and evolved alongside early 20th-century urban music ensembles (takht).
Baladi is to Egypt what blues is to America: a soul form — earthy, improvisational, conversational between body and instrument.
