There's some really groovy (afrobeat style) drumming by Mark Fletcher, some nice saucy upright bass, some Kora (a harp like instrument from West Africa), some Guzheng (a Chinese zither), and some flute.

And some chillwave vocals I "misapplied" for this instrumental, analog song: No synths this time, only the fabulous tonewheel organ!

Thought about adding more instruments but decided to go with this reduced, minimalistic setup: it's all drum and bass! Well, no "drum & bass" (like the track I'm currently working on), but... well, you get it.

Telepathy

"Becoming Human" is a captivating song that narrates the poignant journey of a robot transcending its mechanical existence to embrace the complex world of human emotions and experiences. Throughout the song, he's slowly develops understanding of different languages, which can be heard throughout the song. 6 different languages are spoken in small random chunks.

In 2019, ILYAH met his now official producer Nadir Rhazi known as Rhazi On Da Beat through his agent John Kemayi from Kemayi Management. Together they worked on their debut 2020 single ‘HABIBI’. 

HABIBI brings a Moroccan touch to an upbeat pop track that showcases the Moroccan flag and its colors in the heart of Hollywood. The song features a lot of Moroccan talents like the famous Arabic journalist Simo Benbachir, who graces the video with his catch phrase ‘Nayda Nayda’. 

The video also takes place at The Royals Paris in Beverly hills where we see the Moroccan fashion designer Hicham Benslimane picking different clothing items for ILYAH. 

HABIBI could be considered a unique project since no other Moroccan artist has used this kind of sound and visuals before. One could consider this project to be the first of many successful songs that will follow. Stay tuned

Ilyass Hasnaoui, more popularly known as ILYAH, is a Boston-based Moroccan performing artist whose multicultural upbringing permeates his sound with Arabic, Latin and English influences. ILYAH began his career performing covers on YouTube where he garnered a small following. The support of his fans pushed him to break into the music scene.

 

 In 2018, ILYAH was recruited by Jeff Timmons to join, boyband, Overnight. Timmons is famous for founding the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated, world-renowned group, 98 Degrees.  Timmons deliberated over thousands of internet submissions and auditions to carefully curate Overnight’s band members. Once selected, ILYAH flew to Las Vegas to live together with band members and spend the summer recording and learning choreography. Overnight brought the perfect blend of vocal talent, dancing ability, sex appeal, stage presence, and diversity to create an engaging, high energy, and nostalgic viewing experience.  

In 2019, ILYAH officially began focusing on his solo career after meeting his now official producer Nadir Rhazi aka RhaziOnDaBeat who shares the same cultural background and taste in music.

INFO: Middle aged music maker (and recreational drummer) from the middle of Franconian nowhere arranging music for open minded music lovers who (like me) don't want to listen to the same (kind of) music all/every day - way too boring (or even annoying).

So you'll find all kinds of stuff here, from Space Jazz to Hip Hop, from Synthpop to Triphop, from Folk to Doom, from here to there, from then to now, and many things in between - except for "pure" EDM / Techno / Trance, not my cup of tea. :P 

Many tracks tend towards "alternative pop". Well, if you don't like a song/genre - just skip it! I won't mind...  ;)

P.S.: Before you ask: I (almost) never start with the vocals, asking myself: what strange things could I make with those?

Instead I start making strange music THEN look for some vocal parts that might fit. You'd be surprised how often you get a "match" the moment you throw those in the mix. Well, sometimes it needs a little tweaking... ;)
