Keys Of Life

A note about the song by singer Danny Musengo.

-Last year around this time I was talking to my therapist about a cartoon I saw as a kid, The Grasshopper and The Ant.

Even as a child I worried I was the grasshopper... playing music and gallivanting about while the ants prepared for the long winter ahead.

I explained to my therapist that I had just split with my girlfriend, left my apartment, left my job and to top it off... I had given up the one thing that kept my lifelong existential crisis at bay... alcohol. The long winter had indeed come and I was feeling more and more like the grasshopper in the story.

My therapist just looked at me knowingly and asked "Have you ever watched the cartoon until the end?" I hadn't.

"...the ants realize their lives are dull without the grasshopper and his music... so they invite him in to play for them."

This was both a relief and a revelation.

Later that night Dave and I were in the backyard taking a smoke break from a frustrating recording session. We sat silently staring at the stars for some time before Dave suggested that we put away the song we were working on and write a new one. It was 3am.

We got up and walked back down into the studio. Dave sat at the Rhodes, pressed record and started playing the giant chords you hear at the beginning of the track.

They reminded me of the story from my therapy session.

I approached the mic and started to sing.

The whole song came out in one long breath. No edits. No doubling back.

Just one clear cut message from God to the grasshopper.

This song was written and produced one night last year in my apartment on my iPad, using Garageband and my headphones as a mic. I kept it close for me and my dear friends and family as I continued to heal and deepen my relationship with sharing my voice. The journey of birthing music has led me to record an album with some of the best in this genre, so to celebrate that upcoming release, I'm putting this lil iPad demo out! 

The full album, Eveolution, includes this song recorded in a fancy microphone in a big nice studio, so stay tuned for that version when it comes out soon 😊 Thank you for listening, I hope you love it as much as I do!

“The Human Experience” is David Block’s principal project as a live
electronic composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer. Listeners
experience a delicious symphonic blend of prismatic soundscapes and
sultry beats.

David is constantly pushing the boundaries of live electronic music. Playing, composing, and conducting his own electronic symphony live on stage, his performances are brimming and layered with human emotion, world exploration, and sacred sounds. Whether performing by himself, or with a live band, “The Human Experience” always delivers an emotionally charged show.

“The Human Experience” aims to cross cultural barriers through music. David has collaborated with artists all over the world including Ignacio Perez (Buena Vista Social Club), William Close (The Earth Harp), Random Rab, Govinda, Amae Love, Rising Appalachia, and many others.

Since his debut album “Inaudible Sounds” in 2010 , he has released nine other albums and has new projects planned for release in 2020.  Each song is a sonic journey; interweaving psychedelic layers of melody and harmony with organic grooves and international vibes.

Composing and performing live with the Audio/Visual/Dance projects “Phadroid” (Andrew and Phaedra Jones), “Quixotic”, “Lucent Dossier”, and “Seraphim” David is expanding his sounds into the mixed media world.

David has performed all over the world sharing the stage with renowned artists such as, Thievery Corporation, Bonobo, Tipper, Emancipator, The Polish Ambassador, and many more.

Over the last three years he has toured in UK, Europe, Russia, Israel, Central America, Canada, and all over the United States at a variety of events including festivals like Burning Man, Boom, Coachella, Electric Forest, Wakarusa, Lightning in a Bottle, Sonic Bloom, Symbiosis, and Envision.

His music has been featured on NBC prime time TV and is beginning to make its way into the world of cinema.

David is consistently redefining himself as an artist, performer, and human being. Moving and traveling around the world, meeting people from all walks of life and realms of consciousness, he is continually learning, growing, and sharing inspiration with those around him.
