This song was inspired by John Lennon talking about one of his favorite drinks, "The Brandy Alexander" which is Brandy and Milk. 

Later I wanted to write about what would it be like to be sitting with that drink and hoping that it could give answers and literally asking it, "Could you talk to me?", and even asking for it to take over the day, "Wake me up early ('Ring me morning blue') and have your way ('Where the things you want to do, please do')."

It hit a darker note as I thought of my own experience with my own dad's hypocrisy (from the perspective of my youth) and turning it back on me, that we are all hypocrites ('You need to see a father, understand me son' and 'if I've seen you many times looking fresh from the fight, then fill my prescription.').

Finally, I end with the final verse, asking for my mom to help me sort out the confusion I've found myself in and help me return to a version of myself that I miss and want to be more often ('The devil is in my head, my eyes they are red, and they burn').

Sadly, I've looked to people as an answer, a person to follow and trust, to outsource my mind to ('If you're right for me, then fill it up for me... fill me up anyway').

Lesson? "Be yourself, no matter what they say" as Sting once sang. Trust yourself. Be you and be very careful who you follow as they could drag you down.
