So given that I decided to do something a lil special this month. I decided to do Striking the Demon Down, BUT... BUT... THERE'S TWO???? Yeah so if you don't know at some point Saster decided to remaster his old Underswap (or Revenge) megalo and kinda changed it drastically in a lot of ways. Many (including myself) consider this the definitive version of STDD, and so I've made it the A-Side for this cover (although it's based p much entirely on Pork's cover with harmonies from Nick Nitro's Disbelief version). I kinda always felt like this version always fit better for Revenge Papyrus though so that's why the thumbnail has him and his logo emphasized instead of the J (and obviously the old one for the aforementioned J). So shortly after I get this up the B-Side, based on the original version, will go up too.

Speaking of the thumbnail what do you guys think of this cute lil thing I did? I drew that fire column myself, it was very annoying. I couldn't find any that looked good online so I took matters into my own hands. I had to make it thinner too so that it didn't like block their faces. So that effect was a little annoying to make (YOU FUCKERS BETTER LIKE IT >:(🤬🤬)

So like I promised this is, as the kids say, the unc version of STDD, the OG, the old timer. This is what it sounded like back when all UTAU tracks sounded exactly the same instead of simply almost entirely the same, and changing the tempo of a megalo was a revolutionary and unique artistic choice. Given that, I tried to replicate that in this cover, resulting in a pretty simplistic track that only took a few hours to finish. It's still got some of my signatures that I put in basically every track, such as the SGM String backing and the mediocre mixing, but it's one of my more simplistic.

As I said before, I associate this older version of STDD more with the J as opposed to the newer version, so he's the one featured in the thumbnail along with his respective AU. And thus the gimmick has been paid off.

Episode Description:

Peter Metzelaar, a Holocaust survivor, joins Beth on today's episode. Peter was born in Amsterdam in 1935. In 1942, when Peter was 7, the Nazis seized Peter's entire family except for Peter and his mother. He tells us his incredible story of survival, resilience, and the importance of Holocaust education.

Bio: 

Peter was born in Amsterdam in 1935. In 1942, when Peter was 7, the Nazis seized Peter's entire family except for Peter and his mother. Peter's mother contacted the Dutch Underground for help. The Underground found Klaas and Roefina Post who agreed to shelter Peter and his mother on their small farm in northern Holland, putting their own lives at risk. For two years they lived with the Posts until it became too dangerous and they found another hiding place with two women in The Hague. Peter, his mother, and his aunt were the only survivors of his family. Klaas and Roefina Post have been recognized as Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem.

After the war, Peter and his mother immigrated to the United States in 1949, arriving in New York. Peter was 13 and didn't speak any English, but was placed in the 8th grade. Peter had a long career as a radiology technologist. He and his wife Bea raised two children from Pete's previous marriage and had a third son in California. The Metzelaars moved to Seattle in 1997. Peter continues to be an active member of the Holocaust Center for Humanity's Speakers Bureau.

US-directed repression and counter-insurgency in El Salvador in the 1980s allowed the imposition of "free trade" or "neoliberal" regimes in the generations since then—ultimately culminating in the adoption of CAFTA. This, in turn, has exacerbated the expropriation of the traditional lands of the peasantry by the agro-export oligarchy. It also led to the hypertlophy of the narco economy and a new nightmare of violence, which Nayib Bukele has exploited to establish a new dictatorship. This dictatorship is now openly in league with Donald Trump, and has in fact become critical to his fascist agenda. In Episode 275 of the CounterVortex podcast, Bill Weinberg breaks down El Salvador's historical role as a laboratory of genocide and police-state methods for US imperialism, and the imperative of trans-national resistance.
