"Pindorama," from the Tupi language—one of Brazil’s many indigenous languages—means "land of the palm trees," the country's name before colonization. This evocative name sets the stage for Pindorama X700, an album where Brazilian multimedia artist KALOZIN (the musical name of Kaloan Meenochite) dissects and reimagines contemporary Brazilian electronic rhythms like Pisadinha, Brega Funk, Arrocha, Baile Funk, and Tecno Brega.

“X700” references a popular keyboard model integral to Brazilian electronic music, particularly in rural and northeastern regions. This keyboard, with its preset drum patterns rooted in local music, serves as a nostalgic yet futuristic inspiration for the album.
KALOZIN employs unconventional techniques, blending Brazilian rhythms with intricate samples, broken beats, field recordings, and hypnotic synths. Their live performances are a sensory experience, featuring motion sensors that trigger sounds through movement, exotic ritualistic costumes, and a dynamic setup of samplers, synthesizers, and effects processors, creating layered percussion and complex compositions.

Together, Pindorama X700 conjures a vision of a cybertropical utopia akin to the Tupi-Guarani myth of "terra sem males," or "land without evil." This myth describes a place of eternal abundance and joy, where crops grow effortlessly, and people spend their days dancing and celebrating, free from work and societal constraints. This vision of a society without labor, social control, or oppression is accessible to the living, a tangible destination requiring a journey or migration.

In Pindorama X700, this utopian ideal is reimagined through music, crafting a futuristic landscape where tradition and innovation coexist harmoniously. The album offers a critical lens on colonial legacies while celebrating the resilience and creativity of South American electronic music.

The album is available in a digital version and a 12” vinyl, released in partnership with the labels Pampsychia, Nonlocal Research, and CLAM in November 2024.
