Stergin, the eclectic indie artist known for genre-bending explorations, is set to release Here, the first of a two-part EP series that will culminate in the full-length album Here And Now. Written over a reflective and wildly creative 10-day residency on the Atlantic island of Gomera, Here embodies the joy and curiosity of its surroundings—surf pop vibes, playful synths, and dreamy vocal choirs.

With only a laptop, microphone, a mini keyboard, and a beat-up guitar, Stergin crafted songs that are fun, whimsical, and textured with sounds both intimate and psychedelic. Expect indie rock and twee pop riffs mingling with surf and chamber psychedelic twists—a mix that one friend has aptly called “Napoleon Dynamite in band form.”

The EP’s track, “Roly Poly,” captures a memorable moment from Stergin’s island life. Each night, he encountered a troop of tiny centipedes (affectionately nicknamed Roly Polies), which he carefully escorted outside before bed. “At first, I was a bit horrified,” Stergin laughs, “but eventually, we made peace. Now they have a song!”

In this chapter, the author, who has cast himself in the book as assistant psychiatrist Dr. Robbins, philosophizes with his patient Sissy, who falls into the category of the voluntarily insane and has therefore been passed on from the head physician to his new assistant, lying in the garden of a clinic on Upper East Street and drinking a bottle of wine about what Sissy learned from the old geezer on the mountain at Lake Siwash, who is considered by many to be a guru, but who is not interested in just gathering disciples around him again, but much prefers to dance to any old tune including news and polka, and scratch his ... while watching his specially installed and modified clockwork, adopted from the Indians, after which the end of time will be the beginning of joy.

The entire novel (a novel of the century that flew under the radar, which is only now making its full relevance and far-sightedness accessible to a large readership and should no longer just gather dust on the bookshelf as the ravings of a stoned hippie from the 70s) can be found on YouTube. 'Even Cowgirls get the Blues'. Rereading (the book was written in 1976) or listening is a good tip not only for Goethe fans. Even Robbins says (in this very book) that Goethe was clever enough to add a lot of preservatives to his work ;). Well, Dr. Robbins was, in my opinion, no less clever. His view of things, of the world and its women and men is a good can opener right now, if you can use the term can to metaphorize the human brain. And I can do that. I'm probably one of the biggest fans of this witty man of letters, the one with perhaps, next to Goethe, the most pronounced Wörteraneinanderreihgewissen- meaning word stringing conscience. (Incidentally, this wonderful neologism was coined by Werner Enke from the movie 'Zur Sache Schätzchen')

Have fun listening (all the fun in the whole book - by the way, chapter 55 is particularly funny)
