SSG Splurge - Lexus [notsofast! remix]

Hello! This is my first mix EVER! Thanks for listening :) I'm assuming you got here via my google doc but if not, some context! This mix goes in conjunction with my written piece that explores ideas between play and degrowth for the 4th Rave Cafe zine. Here I'm continuing this exploration in a different format. I also wanted to challenge myself as a dancer and give the decks a whirl... all I have to say is shoutout to u djs fr... This took me so long (like over a month). Big love to the Rave Cafe crew and my uncle Bruce (DJ for over 40 years from the BX, taught me what I know and let me borrow his decks)!!

I’m feel alright with how this came out. I learned a lot. An immense amount of trial and error, yes, but I felt I voiced what I needed to say sonically. I hope you enjoy these playful, goopy, giddy, silly, bouncy, bassy, joyful, hopeful sounds.

A few notes on the music! Giving credit where credit is due and some context (even tho nobody asked)!! 

- S/o to Photay's radio show Extravagant Frequencies on Dublab. I have discovered soooo much beautiful music such as melting e, or Goo Imprint (+ so much more that I sorted through for this mix but didn’t make the cut, u rock!) 
- Triple Flat I heard on Margeaux's Lot radio show. I am now a very big Rei Harakami fan. If yall don’t know Margeaux, get involved.
- Wow, I’ll never forget hearing It’s Yours for the first time at Pitkin. I can't recall who played it I think it was a b3b happening. Sunrise had dawned on us and the sunflowers that dosed the space danced too. Such joyful moment. 
- Serious Play I heard at JADALAREIGN’s set when she came to Philly back in Feb? March? Tore as usual! 
- Celia Hollander - first off girl, if u ever read this….your work is a goldmine, seriously expansive and I am your biggest fan! I have never not cried to In Plain Sight!! But also she put me on to Cleveland after playing a track by him on a lot radio appearance. Cleveland is an  incredible producer on Kalahari Oyster Cult! 
- Dando Vueltas I heard at In Sheeps Clothing during one of their dedicated listening session. I was a dedicated listening session regular and that was an incredibly formative space for me as an intentional listener and learner. My musical knowledge expanded exponentially there. They no longer exist IRL in NYC but do check out what they’ve got goin on online, eclectic selections, rare gems, and deep cuts for more long form and deep listening. 

Cover Art by ME! I did a Linocut workshop with We The People Printmaking and the goal was to create images, symbols and/or text to express your ideas about a re-imagined Declaration of Independence. Naturally I ended up here because I'm always thinking about play, not even recognizing that this would be a perfect photo to encapsulate the goals of this mix. ok bye fr. Love to all!
