Authors in Conversation, Ep. 6 — Judy Tzu-Chun Wu & Alfred Peredo Flores discuss Tip of the Spear

A conversation with Dr. Tiara R. Na'puti, an Indigenous Chamoru scholar and and Associate Professor in Global and International Studies at the University of California in Irvine. Our conversation starts with a photo of my paternal family taken sometime in the 1950's on Bantayan Island in central Philippines. This is a few years after Philippine independence after almost 50 years of American occupation. We discuss the centrality of place in research, formative experiences leading to Dr. Na'puti's research intersecting US empire, US militarism, and climate change as it relates to Guåhan (Guam) and the Pacific, and the role of collaborations in academia. 

Dr. Tiara R. Na’puti is an Indigenous Chamoru (familian Robat & Kaderon) scholar and Associate Professor in Global and International Studies at the University of California in Irvine. Dr. Na’puti was a 2021 Mellon/ACLS Scholars and Society Fellow working with Independent Guåhan and completed a Ph.D. in Communication Studies at the University of Texas in Austin.
