GOODFELLAS - FLYGOD X ON1RICO

We were fortunate to have fast friend and deeply-admired artist, writer, tastemaker, and promoter Vee Here Now grace the lighthouse with his lovingly-curated Calearic Sound. He travels the world searching for its best dancefloors. He’s had the privilege to dance at Berghain (Berlin), Stereo (Montreal), Pikes (Ibiza), Nowadays (NYC), and Despacio (Ghent, Miami, Los Angeles). He implements what he learned from these rare experiences in his backyard for his Badcat.fm parties. These parties are a communal, tribal, and transcendental experience approaching round 10 in their first season.

He collaborates with underground DJs from across Southern California to define what he calls the “Calearic” sound—a California-influenced version of the Balearic sound pioneered in the 80’s by DJ Alfredo in Ibiza. Calearic has the foundation of Balearic, but adds California-native ingredients from renegade all-night raves in the Mojave desert; the awakening of consciousness from Esalen; the invention of surf rock in Orange County; as well as the Laurel Canyon scene.

While he is more than happy to spread the word about the Calearic sound, I simply neglected to get a tracklist from him. I'm posting this pretty late into the game, now that Sublime Saturdays is on hiatus, but this was one you just had to be there for. It was special. Full stop. Catch him, along with his chosen tribe, on Batcat.fm when they broadcast; or just get a ticket through Resident Advisor to his party in Orange County to get a loving portion of the Calearic sound. As the son of a professional flamenco singer, Thomas has always been surrounded by music.  Exposure to flamenco influenced him because it has a dynamic range of emotions—from the "deep singing" style of cante hondo, to the more lively alegrias.  He has also worked in the corporate, independent, and online music industry for a number of years.  At one point he was a Content Manager for the Electronic Music genre at MP3.com, where he screened over 500 songs per day.  Exposure to a wide range of music explains the range of genres in his mixes—he uses whatever carries the mood.  From listening to Umm Kulthum's "Enta Omri" in his childhood, to New Wave and  Industrial as a teen, it became difficult for him to stick to one sound. Though vinyl was his original format of choice when he started in the 90s, the use of digital mixing has helped him better form soundscapes to expand your headspace.  Let him play with your moods for a spell.
