Invasion

De pronto estalló el pánico en Nueva Jersey. A la gente le temblaban las piernas, y gritaba. Mujeres se desmayaban, y hombres se echaban a las calle esa noche, según dice el New York Times. Las líneas de teléfono estaban colapsadas, y a las dos horas la Cruz Roja y la Guardia Nacional se movilizaba en muchas zonas del este de Estados Unidos. Todo esto ocurrió el 30 de octubre de 1938, a causa de una emisión por radio que hizo Orson Welles en un teatro de Nueva York, dando la impresión que los marcianos estaban invadiendo en la Tierra. 

Bajo la forma y lenguaje de un informativo, los actores de la CBS, convertidos en locutores de noticias, anunciaron la llegada de una avalancha de platillos volantes, con conexiones a hipotéticas unidades móviles que narraban el aterrizaje de las naves y describían a aquellos temibles extraterrestres. Se calcula que casi dos millones de oyentes creyeron que la invasión era cierta,  El texto dramatizado por Howard Koch estaba basado en la novela clásica de ciencia-ficción, La guerra de los mundos (1898) de H. G. Wells (1866-1946).

En este programa de radio "Al Trasluz" escuchamos fragmentos del programa de Welles y el libro de Wells, leído por Eugenio Barona. Oímos algunas reacciones a la emisión de Welles, así como diálogos de escenas de las películas sobre el libro de Byron Haskin en 1953 y Steven Spielberg en 2005. La música es de la banda sonora original de John Williams para el film de Spielberg y las composiciones inspiradas en esta obra de Jack Hallam y Jeff Wayne. La narración es de José de Segovia y el sonido de Daniel Panduro.

The track features a 19th Century 'Dulcitone' - A piano-like instrument using tuning forks instead of strings.  Limited numbers of them were made in Glasgow in the late 1800's.

Invisible is a John-Hughes-esque adaptation of the HG Wells classic The Invisible Man with a totally original pop/rock score that pays homage to popular music of the era. 

Two nerds, Griff and Kemper, dream of winning the affections of the Lindeborne twins, the most popular girls in school. Despite the objections of their goth friend Hemlock (who has a crush on Griff ), Griff and Kemper hatch a plan to win the twins: Make themselves more popular using science. But when a serum meant to clear Griff's acne turns him invisible, all seems lost. That is, until Griff uses his invisibility to help Kemper beat Chetwick, the school's bully, in a fight, which sends the school abuzz about Kemper. 

The two use Griff's condition to make Kemper even more popular, figuring that he will just help Griff become popular after he is cured. But soon Kemper goes mad with power and betrays Griff. Griff swears vengeance, and creates a trap to turn Kemper invisible at the prom. Hemlock tries to stop him, and confesses her feelings for him, but he ignores her. As the plan is about to go off, he realizes what a monster he's become, and races to the prom to stop the trap. In doing so, he is hit with the serum, which by now has catalyzed into a cure. Fully visible, he stops the attack of a jealous Kemper, and ignores the resulting buzz from the students so he may apologize to Hemlock and share the last dance with her.

Ben Chatwin is an English composer and musician based in Scotland. Formerly known as Talvihorros, he blends experimental electronics, modern classical instrumentation, and cinematic storytelling. His sound is both personal and universally evocative, existing at the intersection of ambient textures and emotional intensity. 

Combining elements of brutalism and beauty, his work feels grounded in the real world while also reaching into the cosmic and otherworldly. This interplay of light and dark gives his music a profound depth, leaving a lasting emotional imprint that resonates long after the music ends.
