From 1979 to 1982 Vonda Pelto was tasked with keeping some of the worst serial killers in history, all housed at Los Angeles Men's Central Jail, engaged and alive.  Following the jailhouse suicide of Vernon Buttls, one of the Freeway Killers with William "Bill" Bonin, it was deemed necessary to prevent anymore bad publicity for the LA Health Department.

Hillside Strangler Stories from Vonda Pelto, Ph.D., She Dealt with Ken Bianchi at Los Angeles Men's Central Jail: Vonda Pelto, Ph.D. tells some stories about notorious Hillside Strangler Kenneth Bianchi from her time at Los Angeles' Men's Central Jail from 1980 to 1984.  Vonda, author of Without Remorse: The Story of the Woman Who Kept Los Angeles' Serial Killers Alive, had close contact with this handsome and manipulative sociopathic murderer and really noticed how truly slick he was. 

Along with his cousin Angelo Buono, Jr. he tortured, raped and murdered 12 women.  They did some unspeakable things and then he denied he had ever killed anyone, that is all his cousin's doing and he was innocent.  Vonda didn't buy that for a minute.  

She took away from her experience a paranoia that still exists and she passes that advice on to anyone willing to listen.  Serial Killers are great at blending in with the crowd and are generally in control because they want to keep killing for years.  They are not drug addicts or alcoholics, they can't be in that it would cause them to be careless and thus get caught.  

Vonda also dealt with Freeway Killer William Bonin, Sunset Strip Slayer Douglas Clark, a real sick individual, the Trash Bag Murderer and a host of rapists and other high profile inmates.

Serial Killers Not Drug Addicts Or Alcoholics, But Sharp, Conniving Machines Of Death Says Vonda Pelto, Ph.D.: Sancho Jones, host of Thunderstruck Radio, wonders if most serial killers are drug addicts?  Vonda, author Without Remorse: The Story of the Woman Who Kept Los Angeles' Serial Killers Alive, is absolutely not, in fact most are not drinkers either.  These people get their thrills from torture, rape and murder, they can't do drugs and drink when doing these crimes because might get careless and want to keep killing for a long time to come.  

Vonda, who spent over three years dealing with about a dozen different serial killers and a few psychopathic wanna be killers, see them as sharp, highly manipulative men who need to blend in to society to get doing what their doing.  Her book, Without Remorse, details many conversations she had with William Bonin, the Freeway Killer, as he takes a matter of fact attitude about his crimes.  

The one truly psychotic she dealt with, Arthur Jackson, was not a serial killer but was obsessed with actress Theresa Saldana and almost killed her.  He thought if he killed her and was killed by police they would reunite in heaven as doves.
