The CD, 'When Poppies Fall' was recorded in 2010 by the Band of the Parachute Regiment under the direction of Captain David Hammond.

The purpose of the recording was to include music which forms part of a Service of Remembrance. In addition to the 'standard items, the introit, hymns, the ceremony itself and the Regimental marches is 'Song for Joe'.

Private Joe Whittaker of the 4th Battalion The Parachute Regiment was killed on the 24th of June 2008 while on active service in Afghanistan. 

This piece, originally written for his funeral for solo saxophone with piano and bass guitar, was composed and arranged for military band by his sister, Musician Kate Whittaker and played here by her.

"Sunset", also known as the "Retreat Call", is a traditional bugle call played in United Kingdom and British Commonwealth countries to signal the end of the official military day.

This arrangement is by Captain A C Green, former Director of the Royal Naval School of Music's Junior Wing.

This premiere wind band recording of this march was written by the Scottish composer Patrick Doyle.

He is better known for his prolific film score writing on films such as Henry V, Sense and Sensibility, Hamlet, and Harry Potter.

He was invited to compose his ‘Coronation March’ which was first performed at the coronation of King Charles III on May 6th 2023.

"The Other Side of Silence" is a recent work written by the English composer Stephen Roberts. 

It was commissioned by Leamington Music and was originally written for two brass bands. It celebrates coming through the covid lockdown to hearing live music once again.

The title is borrowed from George Eliot’s 1871 book "Middlemarch" and the piece is in the form of eight variations that progress from blithe spirit through adversity to end in ecstatic jubilation.

It was used as the brass band set test piece for the 2022 Swiss Open Championships.

The excerpt is the concluding variations of the work which was specifically transcribed by the composer in this premiere recording for wind band.

The Other Side Of Silence - Stephen Roberts

This march was composed by Sgt Simon Topper and orchestrated and arranged by Sgt Craig Sanders as a tribute to HMS Bronington (M1115); a Ton-class minesweeper launched in 1953, of which the future monarch, Prince Charles, was Commanding Officer for most of 1976. 

On the 17th of March 2016, Bronington sank at her moorings. Since December 2023 plans are in place to try and raise the ship. If full restoration is successful, subject to funding, its proposed home will be in Portsmouth Dockyard.

'Truly’ was a debut solo single by Lionel Richie in 1982 and gained a Grammy Award for best male pop vocal performance. This sumptuous arrangement has been expertly crafted by the incredible hand of Sammy Nestico. The soloist, Cpl Fraser Wilkes, demonstrates immense control and demonstrates the silky sounds and incredible range of the instrument with an effortless ability.

Truly - Lionel Richie arr. Sammy Nestico

"Amphibiosity" is an arrangement by the English composer Martin Ellerby. It was originally commissioned for the Mountbatten Festival of Music, the annual event featuring the massed bands of the Royal Marines held annually at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The arrangement features traditional marches and hymns germane to the music of the Royal Marines Band Service. This finale section incorporates three of those, 'Victory', the traditional navy hymn 'Eternal Father Strong to Save, and a vibrant arrangement of 'By Land and Sea' the slow march of the Royal Marines.
