Samuel had written an interesting piece with challenging guitar patterns in two parts. I was intrigued by the music, but we let it sit for a couple of years. I picked it up again and got inspired to write a keyboard/orchestra part for it. The repetitive patterns on low strings stabbed with melodic plucks on higher strings hinted at the many directions I could go. They left room for me to expand the harmony and punctuate the piece with dissonance, like one might add spices to a dish they are cooking. I then added a drum part that accented the rhythmic chugging, a bass guitar too, and we were off. It took me 2 months to master the upper part whilst Samuel reviewed his over a few days and then came in to effortlessly record it.

Battle For Triton

In August 2022 Samuel sent me a guitar melody and a "chuga-chuga" heavy guitar part via Guitar Pro. Guitar Pro serves as a sketch pad for us to work on together, to share ideas. I liked the themes he had come up with and proceeded to develop them in a neoclassical style through variations and different keys. It was a lot of fun! Those key changes were a killer though when it came time to record, because Samuel had open strings in his parts and had to retune for parts in C# minor, C minor, D# minor.

Final Transmission

I gave Samuel a few collections of notes from various transpositions of the octatonic scale (symmetrical scale, alternating tone-semitone), a scale explored by Rimsky-Korsakov, Stravinsky, and Bartok, and asked him to write some heavy metal riffs. I then gathered these riffs together and derived chords, poly chords, melodies, and a structure.

After a long time we have officially made a new track! This one we call "The Rapture". We are beyond grateful for Nathan's assistance on the track, he really brought the track to a whole new level and added even more creativity to the fray as Jaxon and I wanted to create the next, heavy track for No Tomorrow, we both have learned how to scream and after much trial and error, we have this song. All of us hope you love the track as much as we did making it!!
