The story of Ibrahim (AS) leaving his family in Makkah and his building of the Ka'bah has many lessons for the Muslim Ummah. With the coming of the Hajj, it is a good time to remind ourselves of these lessons.

Hajj A Journey of Sacrifice & Hope

Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing. [Qur’an 17:1]

In this month of Rajab, the Prophet (saw) was taken to Al-Quds and Jannah where Allah (swt) showed him (saw) the delights of Paradise and the torments of Hell. This miraculous event happened at a time of severe trial for the Prophet (saw) and its initial announcement to the Quraysh seemed like a victory for them.

Today Muslims are living through trying times and it seems the detractors of Islam have the upper hand, so what can we learn from al-Isra wal-Mir'raj and the events surrounding it to aid us to traverse these trials and emerge victorious like the Prophet (saw).

Ibrahim is the fourteenth chapter of the Holy Qur'an, consisting of 52 verses. It is a Meccan Surah that stresses the importance of following the guidance brought by all messengers sent by God. The central message is that people who turn away from the clear light of truth will face darkness.

The Surah is named after Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), whose heartfelt prayer is featured prominently, where he asks God to protect his descendants and make the city of Mecca a secure place.
