

Dance Cards was written in 2024 for the Icelandic Saxophone Quartet, who premiered the work on March 9th, 2024 in Reykjavik, Iceland. The work is in three short movements:

i. Tango
II. Waltz
III. Square Dance

The title comes from a European social custom dating back to the 18th century, where upperclass women would write the names of their suitors on a card in order to remember who their various dance partners were during a gala.

Dance Cards for Saxophone Quartet

 Wes Stephens' (b. 1983) award-winning compositions have been performed internationally by organizations and ensembles such as the Boston Metro Opera, Bespoke Brass, and Duo Harpverk. He holds degrees from the University of Missouri (Master of Music, 2009) and Missouri Western State University (Bachelor of Science in Music Education, 2007).
