Silly Sesh Vol. 2

Terry Farley, Dave Jarvis and Stuart Patterson are the trio behind the hugely influential Faith fanzine and iconic series of parties. This mini-mix showcases four of their most iconic Faith anthems.

Officially opening its doors on 26 April 1977, Studio 54 was arguably the most famous (and infamous) club of the 1970's New York disco scene, paying host to famous guests such as Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Elton John, Cher, Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. Closing on 4 February 1980, the club remained popular throughout its short-lived history owing to its theatrical atmosphere where stars and socialites mixed freely.

Amongst the DJ's to perform there were Nicky Siano, Richie Kaczor, Tom Savarese, Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan.

This mini-mix showcases some of the most regularly played songs at the club. It starts with the very first track played on the first night - Devil's Gun by C.J. and Co. - and ends with the track regularly played at closing time - Last Dance by Donna Summer. Sandwiched somewhere between these two is Le Freak by Chic, famously written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards inspired by their refusal into the club by doormen, which then ironically became a staple of the club's playlist.

Icons of Disco: Studio 54

In the early 1970's London's waves of cultish soul and jazz landed into Essex, Surrey and Kent. Jazz-funk, as the soul scene in the south became known, would dominate British club culture until acid house laid it to rest in the mid 1980's.

Central to this jazz-funk movement was a group of DJs who collectively became known as The Soul Mafia. Included in this group were Chris Hill, Robbie Vincent, Greg Edwards, Froggy and Jeff Young (also, in its latter days, a young Pete Tong).

The Soul Mafia hosted groundbreaking, marathon all-day dance events that grew into a massive national following. They were the primary DJ team for the legendary Caister Soul Weekenders which began in 1979, a cornerstone event for the UK dance scene. They also heavily promoted independent UK soul bands and helped coin and build the "Brit-Fun" genre.

This mini-mix showcases a few of the songs most regularly played by the Soul Mafia DJs. Chris Hill would always close his set with the anthem Bring The Family Back by Billy Paul, so in memory of Hilly this track fittingly closes this mini-mix.

On August 1, I brought ICONS to life for the first time, a concept I created to celebrate the artists who have shaped the soundtrack of our lives.

At the heart of ICONS is The ICONS Spotlight, my immersive remix experience built around one legendary artist and woven into a full night of music. For the debut, the choice was obvious: Madonna.

This recording begins at midnight, at the exact moment the first-ever ICONS Spotlight began. For the next hour and a little beyond, we celebrate Madonna across eras, classics, remixes and new music, including selections from Confessions on a Dance Floor Part 2.

But ICONS was never meant to be an entire night of one artist.

The Spotlight is one hour. The night goes beyond.

And on this first night, the Spotlight went a little beyond too.

From there, the recording continues as the night naturally transitions back into the dance floor, mixing Madonna with house, pop, circuit, vocals and other artists through the end of the night.

This isn't a studio recreation or a mix inspired by the event. This is the actual set, with the energy, spontaneity and little imperfections that make a live set exactly that: live.
