Healing ( Spinning in Circles-rewind )

The beauty of this recording is the breakthrough that we shared. Recorded in the Golden Door studios (our new name for the basement where the band gets its name), this demo captures the emotions and energy of a song being born - when emptiness is radiance.

This recording is the first run through of the song in its entirety. It is completely live uncut and no overdubs. Don't let the long intro scare you. 

Lyrically, there are a few things at play. “Facing all directions…” is inspired by the Bayon temple within the Angkor Wat temple area in Cambodia. There, large carved stone faces look out to the four cardinal directions. There are also depictions of an ancient Hindu myth where enlightened beings and wrathful deities “churn up the elixir” of eternal life. Exploring the idea of immortality in a Buddhist sense of reincarnation, “in the radiance” refers to expressions in the Tibetan Book of the Dead where the teaching that "emptiness is radiance" connects the ultimate nature of reality (emptiness) with its brilliant, vibrant, and conscious expression (radiance). It describes the Clear Light of the Bardo, a moment of pure luminous reality that arises during the death process. Recognizing this radiant emptiness allows for liberation from the cycle of rebirth, as we recognize the true nature of reality, our true Buddha nature. One only needs to look at the ocean glistening in the sunshine, the beauty of a sunrise or sunset, to understand the radiance of life, “the beauty of the night”.

Mat, darin and Mike had pieced the concept of this song together the previous jam session from Mike's ethereal bassline. Mat spent the next day out on Kitty Islet, near where Chikawich village once was, now McNeil Bay, writing lyrics and figuring out some chords for the bridge.

Haleen is a realization of a Belgian husband and wife duo. They operate from an off-grid setting in Portugal and have created their own unique genre of music. Kath's musical journey may not boast a lengthy history, but it's a tale of profound transformation. With minimal musical exposure in her past, Kath underwent a radical overnight shift in her musical taste—from indulging in the greatest hits of mainstream artists across genres like Disco, Rock 'n' Roll, and Metal to immersing herself in the captivating realms of Electronic Dance Music.

Her musical evolution reflects a seismic change, transcending traditional boundaries and embracing a diverse array of sounds. Kath's current musical palette is a testament to her newfound appreciation for artists who resonate with a powerful energy, aligning seamlessly with the transformative force of their shared kundalini experience. In this chapter of her musical exploration, Kath is drawn to the enchanting sounds of Sam Garrett, Mose, Peia, Yaima, Ajeet, and more—artists whose melodies synchronize perfectly with the evolving rhythms of her journey.
