"Music, to create harmony, must investigate discord," Plutarch.
"Indiferencia" was composed in response to "Vexations" by Erik Satie. Satie's Vexations presents a solo bass line followed by a harmonisation of this line. This is repeated with the upper voices of the harmonisation inverted. Vexation uses mostly diminished chords.
"Indiferencia" develops this idea coupled with my own philosophy that, "A note can be harmonised using any of the four basic chords." - Gomila JM (2024) "On the Harmonisation of Notes"
As with Satie's "Vexations", the main theme is introduced as a solo bass line. The theme is subsequently harmonised firstly in the bass voice, then as the middle voice and finally as the top voice.
To add variety to the harmonies, at each interpretation, the notes of the theme are treated as the third, then the fifth and finally the root of the chord respectively. The result is the dispassionate, unchanging theme which embodies "Indiferencia".

Studied Clarinet and Theory at the Gibraltar Music Centre. Played clarinet in the local municipal band, Youth Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.  Toured with a rock band as lead guitarist. Sang in the Tenor section of the Calpe Singers. Founder member of the Band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment rising to Warrant Officer 2nd Class, appointed BSM. Musical Director of local productions of West End musicals. Conducts the “Calpe Band” and the “Gibraltar Band and Drums Association”.
Studied Music Education in UK. Taught in local schools becoming Headteacher at a Primary school.
Have written some processional, concert and military marches, including one for His Majesty the Sultan of Oman. I have received special mention at the  International Maurice Ravel soundtracks contest. One of my pieces is available on Ablaze Records. Another was premiered in Dallas. Some of my work is featured at AudioSparx. My compositions cater for different ensembles and genres.
