Responsorial Psalm: You are my inheritance, O Lord

In Parshat Pinchas, the Torah describes how the Land of Israel was divided among those over the age of 20 at the time of entry—not based on those currently turning 20. Through the complex system of inheritance, where portions reverted to the names of ancestors who died in the desert, we are taught that entering the Holy Land requires confronting the Keter, the spiritual barrier that pushes us back just before reaching the light. This setback tests our joy and perseverance. Those who responded with simcha despite trials were worthy of receiving the Land. The act of giving the land back to their ancestors before reclaiming it reflects the mechanism of Keter—every true spiritual inheritance requires submission, humility, and endurance. The Land, which is the place where the Infinite Light shines, can only be accessed by those who joyfully accept the Divine “pushback” and hold fast to their desire to be close to Hashem.

Parsht Pinchas - The Inheritance of the Dead

“The passage from Ephesians tells us we, all of us, as a people, and indeed the entire cosmos, have redemption in Jesus Christ. Despite everything we have done, we have been given a gift. How we respond to that gift is up to us. So let us consider this passage, holding in tension all the things that are true: that our political system is more precarious than we may have thought, the birds are still singing, and we woke up this morning free to come to church."

Today's Gospel lesson is from Luke 12:13-21. 
Jesus responds to an inheritance dispute with a parable about a rich fool who hoards his abundance rather than sharing with the community. The sermon explores different forms of greed beyond material wealth, examining how our relationship with resources - whether money, attention, or influence - reflects our spiritual priorities and understanding of God's kingdom economics.
