FLY AGAINST THE WIND WITH ME

If you can spare thirteen minutes of your day
  for sake of the next three years and well beyond;
If you are undecided, choked numb by smoke and mirrors
  or with a moment's hesitation have your say;
If you are not quite sure the whims and moods
  of this land, who would take your money, shake your
hand, pretend to care, lie again, cheat and lose their way;
  If you are angry, still standing after bushfire, flood
and virus, doubt or wonder who should lead us
  beyond this crucial merry-go-round of May;
And if you want only the best for your country, your children,
  not the worst we've seen in bogan disarray;
Listen up, yours can be a future worthy for the taking,
  let's fly against the wind together and yes, remember -
Then my friend, you are ready to cast that vital vote today.

Vic Verchereau welcomes Fred Ford whose life is a rich story of hard work and putting others first.

A son of Alabama sharecroppers, Fred Ford was also a gifted athlete, a successful career and an unshakable faith! 

A manufacturing professional with an extensive, broad-based background of diversified responsibilities and accomplishments in the automotive industry. He has well established knowledge in business operations areas including information systems facilities management, production operations and public relations.   He received the GM President’s Award for his outstanding leadership and dedication.

Mr. Ford is very active in his community as a deacon in his church and currently serves as the President of the Holt/South Lansing Rotary Club and is the treasurer on the Board of Education for the Holt School District. He has also served as junior and senior high football coach in both the Lansing and Holt School Districts and is a mentor and motivational speaker for children and youth in the Greater Lansing Area. 

Mr. Ford joined us at our Lansing studios and we had a great visit to unravel an amazing journey from the son of sharecroppers to a corporate executive.  Tune in for this conversation on the Leadership Lowdown!

Our culture increasingly celebrates perversion, victimizes the vulnerable, cancels the truth-tellers, teaches what is contrary to God’s word in the classroom, and attacks Christian perspectives with prejudice and without impunity. In general, believers are called to gracious restraint under oppression. But should people of faith ever fight for truth in the face of adversity? And what should that look like? Pastor Steve preaches from Abram’s rescue of his nephew Lot in Genesis 14:1-24 and reveals 3 ways authentic faith should guide our approach to a God-glorifying life when the attack comes—inspiring bravery in adversity, humility in victory, and integrity in our actions. Steve’s message follows a prayer for Cornerstone Church in Ames and the families of the victims of the recent shooting there. Steve also presents a particular need for a new hire to focus on youth ministry at Creekside.

Body Integrity Identity Disorder

Paul Cleary is a best-selling author and journalist who’s just written an incredible book – certainly a must read for any Aussie, and every West Aussie, with implications that arguably extend far beyond. It’s called ‘Title Fight: How the Yindjibarndi battled and defeated a mining giant’. The back cover bills it as ‘a David and Goliath story set in the ancient landscape of the Pilbara’. That’s in the north-west, here in WA. And the mining giant is Fortescue Metals Group (or FMG), led by billionaire Chairman Andrew Forrest. In the face of that company’s staggering array of unscrupulous tactics, intimidation and exploitation, the Yindjibarndi people and their leader Michael Woodley, prevailed through to the highest court in the land. And this story is far from done at the closing of that back cover.

The implications of this extraordinary triumph continue to be enormous, for the Yindjibarndi, for Forrest and FMG, and for communities, economies and landscapes everywhere. For the Yindjibarndi have not just won a pivotal legal battle, they are demonstrating a model of holistic development that feels instructive for us all. And all based on deciding for themselves what sort of culture, community and commerce they want to create. 

This story is so relevant to not just how to stop Forrest and FMG (and anyone else) from such ongoing disregard for Australian and Aboriginal culture, heritage and law. But for what this might mean for the renewable energy transition and other laudable initiatives that Forrest and his Foundation are engaged with, and for the nearby flashpoint of Woodside’s Scarborough Gas proposal (and others), among the greatest rock art site in the world.
