Puma & The Dolphin make a welcome return to Invisible Inc and once again deliver the goods.

Worth mentioning here that the Phantom Impulses EP has all come together rather quickly, which is exciting. It actually only just got inserted into the release schedule just over a week ago, shortly after new year. It was mastered just 5 nights ago and the artwork started 3 days ago...so it's happening fast. It's a refreshing feeling when you think about the slow pace of the vinyl situation at the moment. Kind of like how it should be (and how it used to be with DIY private presses back in the day).

This also means no DJ feedback yet....but since sending out some promo yesterday I'm told the opening track "Golden Coast" will be appearing on Optimo's NTS show next week! So... off to a good start.

Invisible Inc is over the moon to finally be announcing this long-awaited double album of new music by Secret Circuit.

Presented here are 21 new pieces (or 22 if you count the bandcamp-exclusive digital bonus) recorded between 2020 and 2022 which capture that spacey, otherworldly quality Secret Circuit is known for but they also very much veer into the warmer, earthier and generally more ambient textural territories of his E Ruscha V and Only Thingz work...an altogether softer sensibility. The fact that the second disc of the double album is primarily ambient further confuses the issue! But Secret Circuit this most definitely is!

From a plethora of demos (60+) Invisible Inc label boss GK Machine wanted to distill these down and explore a side of Ruscha's that he felt hadn't been heard before, focussing on Ruscha's more emotive yet at the same time experimental side. Is that a paradox? Well, let's say only very rarely do we hear modular synths doing something so human-sounding, and when these are juxtaposed alongside slide guitars, live bass and vocodered vocals, we have something very special indeed.

Then there's the artwork...all lovingly drawn by E Ruscha V himself and landing on our desk long after the record had gone into production and test pressings delivered and approved. The package is made complete with a double-sided colour insert with liner notes and another of Ruscha's mind-warping doodles. Oh and the liner notes are written in reverse so you'll need a mirror to read them. Of course they are!

To cut a long story short, everything about this release is archetypal classic Secret Circuit and couldn't be anyone else. A highpoint for the label in 2023, no doubt.

Invisible Inc is proud to present another unique and remarkable release, this time diving even further into ambient, spiritual and folk-infused psychedelia.

“Mondo Organico”, as the name suggests, is a concept compilation that captures the “organic” side of the label. The use of non-electronic instrumentation is a familiar theme explored previously with the likes of Komodo Kolektif, Immaculate Rivombo and Peter Power...but this time the instruments and voices, tranquil and meditatively hypnotic in places, display an even deeper spirituality.

Featuring the talents of Andi Otto and his fello (electronic cello), Anna vs June's ethereal vocals, Tyler Ov Gaia's zoned-out mantra rhythms, Pieter Kock's 8-minute bass and guitar psych odyssey, as well as label favourites Sordid Sound System and Puma & The Dolphin, the record is enthralling and mesmerizing from start to finish. You will want to flip it over when you reach the end...and start all over again.

Wandering through the twilight, he looked up at the moon so very far away and wondered what it might be like to soar. He had always dreamt of careering through the clouds, beyond into the darkness so as to escape from the chaos and strife of the world down here below. It would be ever so magic.

He wondered what others would think of his wild, reckless fantasies. What would they think of his strange longing to leave it all behind? Would they think he was crazy or bewildered...

In the distance he saw a flyer framed in a shop window. It was illuminated by a faint, flickering glow.

'Are you psychic?' is what it read.

Michal Turtle is an esteemed and well renowned figure in leftfield, experimental music having been releasing material for some 40 odd years. Now Invisible Inc. have the privilege of releasing a record titled 'Same Songs, Different Room'. A record comprised of material reimagined and remastered, from the ground up. New versions of much loved classics and forgotten gems.

It's been 40 years since Michal Turtle released his seminal, ground-breaking album "Music From The Living Room" into the world and promptly disappeared back into the aether.
An extremely obscure cult classic known only to deep diggers and aficionados of the finest order, it wasn't until Music From Memory reissued some of the tracks from it via retrospective compilations of Turtle's unreleased music almost 30 years later that his name become more widely known and a new generation were able to discover the artist's unique and pioneering style of experimental electronic music production, the majority of it very much ahead of its time, and to this day, still timeless.
Invisible Inc contacted Turtle in the summer of 2023 about releasing something else by him and it was during this exchange of emails that ideas were expressed about releasing not simply a straightforward reissue of "Music From The Living Room" to mark its 40th anniversary (the album has never been reissued in full) but rather a re-imagined/re-constructed take on the album bringing contemporary techniques, styles and newly recorded vocal and instrument parts into the mix and breathing new life into these wonderful compositions.
Collaborators old and new were brought into the studio and the songs re-created from the ground up. Familiar songs like "Are You Psychic?" and "Village Voice" get overhauled and echo remnants of their original counterparts but simultaneously sound like completely new tracks. The always mesmerising "Phantoms of Dreamland" is represented through a live recording at Café Oto featuring original album vocalist Lucianne Lasalle and regular collaborator HOVE on electronics. The remaining tracks, however, will be completely new to the ears of most people, never having been reissued or heard in these new forms ever before.
Regardless, whether in some way familiar or not, these hypnotic and repetitive pieces of beautiful sound art, all very different in style from one another, have an entirely new identity that even diehard devotees of the originals will fall in love with.

PREMIERE: Michal Turtle - Phantoms Of Dreamland [Invisible Inc]

Invisible Inc once again presents another incredible full-length album from the talented Double Geography. Following on from 2020's “The Indoor Gardener”, the new LP “Open Water” is bathed in a similar blissful atmosphere.

Double Geography aka Duncan Thornley (one half of Weird Weather and studio engineer at MAP Studios), following the success of his debut album had sent Invisible Inc demos of his second and third album, which although each excellent in their own way, the label reluctantly declined on the basis that the music didn't quite fit into the spectrum of the label's output. However, this fourth studio album fits the bill perfectly. Leaning towards the label's more ambient and laidback output, the album is themed around water, transience and escape and sounds as unshackled and free-flowing as you'd expect...you can almost feel the breeze in the air and the sun on your skin.

There is a noticeable progression in the music from his previous releases, this time featuring several additional musicians to compliment Thornley's electronics with live instrumentation...adding a complexity and depth to each of these compositions and an overall 'organic' quality that makes these new pieces sound like quite a departure from the first album. Fretless bass, clarinet and saxophone decorate the music with refrains and melodies that have been enchanting our imagination even in their absence since first hearing them.

“I wanted to incorporate some live musicians on this release so called upon some of the talent I'd worked with as an engineer at MAP Studios...that was the main drive behind the music for this release. The tracks are named after things that relate to either leaving behind canal boat living, e.g. Goodbye Great Escape (Great Escape was the name of our boat) or memories from a trip to Hydra, Greece. All sorta water related… On one of our walks around the island we ended up sharing a beach with Pierluigi Collina hence Famous Italian Referee! That track felt like the weirdest of the bunch so it got designated the weirdest name / memory!” (Duncan Thornley, March 2024)

Wandering through the forest he could here little but for the occasional chirp of birds nestled in the trees up above him. It were as if he was shrouded beneath some dense green sky in which wild colours and tones flourished in the glint of the sun and the shadows which fell from above.

This could be magic. Perhaps it was…

He wandered atop soft moss, taking one step at a time, being careful not to lose sight of the path upon which he tread ever so carefully.

There was magic here alright, that was certain.

Secret Circuit is sensationally remixed by Andrei Rusu who reworks the music into something wonderful and delicate, pieced together by flurries of arpeggios and loving melody from an otherworldly piano.

Following on from last years's "Mondo Organico" compilation, the latest Invisible Inc mini-compilation "Mondo Ritmo", as its title suggests, sets its sights firmly on rhythm and percussion.
Featuring a global array of artists hailing from Argentina to Senegal and everywhere inbetween, the influences and styles on display include latin, afro, dub, dancehall, experimental, acid and more...although it's safe to say none of the tracks are just one of these labels and some of them so impossible to categorise they are genuinely unique.
Initially this EP was intended to be Dancefloor Detonators Vol. 3 but the tempos and vibes of the music that found their way to Invisible HQ were so varied that the whole concept shifted in another direction entirely.
However, lacking in dancefloor killers this EP most certainly is not. Proven and tested dancefloor bombs are Mytron & Balam's opening track "Cabasa Loca" which label boss GK Machine has been spinning at his Wrong Party nights and elsewhere for the last 6 months or so, resulting in track ID requests on several occasions...and the house/dancehall hybrid floor filler "Wicked Can't Run" by LA producer Tom Chasteen (Exist Dance/Dub Club) featuring legendary Jamaican DJ and toaster U Brown, and mixed by equally legendary producer/keyboardist David Harrow who first came to our attention through his regular keyboard contributions to all things On-U Sound related in the 1980s.
The rest of the tracks may not be peak time bangers but they are sure to please the more esoteric and adventurous dancefloors out there....it's an honour to have on board Calypso Records head honcho Thomass Jackson, Thomash (Voodoohop) and Gats (Suçuarana / Curuba) who together as Changa Boys bring in Senegalese drummer Ndiaxo dal Jaam, and finally the little-known Machine and percussionist Congo Caveman.

In any case, now that these tracks have finally fledged the nest, I feel somewhat liberated and can move on from this fairly niche and specific sound. The gamelan instruments have been returned to Gamelan Naga Mas, from who we'd borrowed them, and the masks hung up. This does not mean that Graeme Miller and I won't work together again in the future...I'm sure we will...it just means we won't be tied to working within the constraints of gamelan, synths, percussion and dub that we became known for.
