J.S. Bach: Suite for solo cello in G major. Preludium, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuet I-II., Gigue. Béla Pukánszky - cello.
Although Bach was born in Leipzig, Germany, he probably wrote his cello suites in Köthen, Saxony-Anhalt, between 1717 and 1723. He worked in the town as court conductor to Prince Leopold, whose first wife loved music as much as her husband. Here Bach gained great esteem as a conductor and composer, and was able to compose the Brandenburg Concertos, the Wohltemperiertes Klavier and the Six Suites for solo cello with complete peace of mind. This series contributed greatly to the development of his cello playing technique and has since become one of the most precious gems in the instrument's repertoire. The movements of this G major solo suite are Preludium, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuet I-II., and Gigue.
