Uzaylı hayatı şaka değil

This track is about humanity's yearning to discover its own cosmic origin story.

I was inspired by the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope in 2021, which was built to allow us to see and understand the very early universe. The countdown and audio is sampled from the NASA TV commentary of the launch in 2021, from a spaceport on the edge of the Amazon rainforest. I think the narrator's line "From a tropical rainforest to the edge of time itself" is absolutely brilliant.

This musical voyage also features the Lord's Prayer in Aramaic, an Islamic call to prayer and chanting from Ramana Maharshi's ashram in India.

This is my first ever track, produced on Ableton Live.

Back to the Birth of the Universe

I made this after gazing in awe at the unbelievably stunning image the James Webb space telescope captured of the SMACS 0723 galaxy cluster—the deepest & farthest into the past humanity has ever seen. It feels unreal that we can reach back into a moment 4.6 billion years ago—when Earth was just a glint in the Milkyway’s eye—and receive its light, here, in our present day. There was something so mystifyingly interwoven and transcendent about that very thought, & that’s what I hope to convey with this piece.

Logbook entry: We are still lost in the Void. The crew is demotivated, and morale is low. To prevent us from going insane in the darkness of the universe and forgetting our human roots, I have searched through the archives for incoming messages from our home civilization.

Astronomers for the ASPIRE program using the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope have discovered a thread-like arrangement of 10 galaxies that existed just 830 million years after the Big Bang. This deep galaxy field from Webb’s NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) hosts these 10 distant galaxies. This 3 million light-year-long filament is anchored by a very distant and luminous quasar – a galaxy with an active, supermassive black hole at its core. The quasar, called J0305-3150, on the right side of the image, outshines its host galaxy. These 10 galaxies existed just 830 million years after the big bang. The team believes the filament will eventually evolve into a massive cluster of galaxies.
These results were published in two papers in The Astrophysical Journal Letters on 29 June 2023.
