Costa Mappis has always been passionate about electronic music and is steadily making a name for himself in the scene. Costa discovered his love for Happy hardcore in his early teens which set the wheels in motion and gradually transitioned into hard house and NRG which has ultimately paved the way to Trance (anything ranging from 128bpm progressive to 140bpm uplifting bangers). Fuelled by his love for music and creative desire to create his own, a recent investment in some CDJs and a mixer proved advantageous when an opportunity arose to support Above & Beyond on their recent Group Therapy tour. The competition involved the submission of a 30 min mix. Although he was still refining his mixing skills, the decision to enter seemed obvious. Costa’s mix was selected by Jaytech as the winner. He gained notoriety as the support DJ for Above & Beyond and has made an everlasting impression as the new-faced talent. Since then he has supported the likes of Mat Zo, Jaytech, Kyau & Albert, Solarstone & Roger Shah, Marlo and various guest mixes on Nova’s Next Gen show, BAM radio and Afterhours.FM. Costa has become one of the most upfront Trance DJ’s and accredits his musical influence to Armin van Buuren, M.I.K.E and Above & Beyond

Moved to Florida in 1997 and heard my first electronic music.  I fell in love.  A couple years later I bought my first turntables and began teaching myself to DJ in my spare bedroom.  I went on to spin mostly Breaks/Breakbeats around north Florida in the later 90's to 2000's.  Nearly 20 years later, and in the mountains of Virginia, USA, I remain true to techno & breakbeats. Since 1997 when Kasey Taylor founded Vapour Recordings, the label has gone on and forged itself an enviable reputation, not only as one of Australia’s leading independent dance labels, but the worlds too.

When you feast your ears upon a new Vapour Recordings Ep, think of it as forward thinking dance music. If there is one defining feature of a Vapour record, it’s that it is just a little ahead of its time. The sort of tune that the average person might put back on the shelf, and then later on hear it out in a club and kick themselves because they didn’t realise how damn good it really was at first listen, and because they knew they had just let a gem of a tune slip right through their fingers.

July 2011 saw the label reach it’s landmark 100th release. The clock was wound back for this one choosing artists from the past, present and future to remix the back catalogue. The package contained some fantastic names, with remixes from the likes of Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Luis Junior, Jamie Stevens, Peter Horrevorts, Nick Warren, Dousk, Rodskeez, Fiord and many more.

There are DJs in the world who have vision. Those who can pick up a sound before it becomes popular and break it to the masses. Names like John Digweed & Hernan Cattaneo spring to mind, and Vapour releases have always found their way into the record boxes and charts of these luminaries. They are attributes that Kasey Taylor has also.

It isn’t easy to turn heads in the underground dance music scene when you are a small record label operating from the ass end of the universe! It’s harder to slip promos to DJs and radio station reps, magazine editors and so on. There’s seldom a chance to drop your own track in front of the big name DJs to prove just how effective your music can be. With that in mind, it’s a real credit that Vapour Recordings has earned a spot as premiere labels on the global market, commanding the attention of all the industry heavy weights through nothing more than releasing quality tunes. No huge advertising budgets, no massive PR campaigns, no industry schmoozing, no shit talking, no sales driven drum rolls, no poxy synth lines – Just a talented collective of like minded artists doing it well from around the globe.
