All diese Einflüsse verdichten sich heute in den Kompositionen des Pianisten und Keyboarders Marcus Bodenmann und seiner ganz persönlichen Vorstellung von Musik. Geprägt vom Wunsch, sich frei zu fühlen und den ureigenen Sound zu entdecken. Kompositionen, die Ausdrucksformen des Jazz mit den Einflüssen aus Rock, Pop und Blues der letzten 50 Jahre verbinden. 

Piano, Bass und Schlagzeug sind die Instrumente, die den ehrlichen, lebendigen und vielschichtigen Sound des Trios prägen. Die Kraft der leisen Töne, die Tiefe der Reduktion und die Einfachheit und Zerbrechlichkeit der Melodien stehen sperrigen und explosiven Momenten gegenüber.

Mit dem Schlagzeuger Dani Schmid und dem Bassisten Felix Mueller haben zwei hervorragende Musiker bei der Entstehung der Songs mitgewirkt. Sie unterstützen den Sound des M.B.Trios mit ihrer Liebe zum Detail auf hervorragende Art und Weise.

New Orleans Sessions - The Alligator That Never Bit

Ah, the Big Easy sessions. That was '89, maybe '90. We met this cat at some joint on Bourbon Street, three sheets to the wind and talking big about Alligator Records. Said he loved what we were laying down, didn't matter we weren't blues - "good music is good music," he kept saying while buying rounds we couldn't afford to refuse.

So we followed him to some studio that smelled like cigarettes and broken dreams. Cut a whole album in three days, living off po' boys and whatever that guy was pouring from his flask. The music was fire - Lou's guitar had that Louisiana humidity baked right into it, and my B3 was singing gospel in a language even the devil would understand.

"Rolling Highballs" was the opener, the song that made that A&R guy's eyes light up like Christmas morning. We thought we'd made it. Had visions of tour buses and royalty checks.

Turns out he was A&R for his nephew's garage band, not Alligator Records. The album sat in his closet until Lou tracked him down, pulled out his steel and flew home with the tape box on his lap.

Sometimes the best music comes from the biggest lies, and the best friends are the ones who'll travel cross-country to steal back your dreams at gunpoint.

The opening chapter of the "Wonderful Life" EP. "The City Sleeps" begins with a virtuoso, unaccompanied upright bass solo—capturing the woody, resonant sound of the instrument in a Ray Brown style. It sets a cinematic, noir atmosphere before the piano gently drifts in. A study in minimalism and tone.

Wonderful Life (EP) is a genre-bending journey where the smoke-filled atmosphere of American Soul Jazz collides with the ancient power of Georgian Polyphony.

This 6-track collection is a showcase of virtuoso musicianship, driven by deep, woody upright bass solos (Ray Brown style) and energetic, blues-drenched piano riffs (Gene Harris style).

From the intimate silence of "The City Sleeps" to the stadium-sized choral explosion of the finale, this album tells a story of struggle, hope, and the fire that burns inside.

The cinematic finale of the "Cold Coffee & Old Wood EP." It's 3 AM, the bar is closing, and the city is asleep. This extended Noir Jazz version features smoky vocals, a walking upright bass, and brushed drums, providing a sophisticated and atmospheric conclusion to the musical journey.

"Cold Coffee & Old Wood" is a conceptual 5-track EP exploring the spectrum of human emotion through musical duality. It is a journey that embraces both sun-soaked energy and introspective shadows.

Reimagining the core theme across five distinct musical landscapes, this collection moves seamlessly from the bright, radio-ready hooks of Pop-Country and the driving force of anthemic Rock, down into the intimate warmth of Indie Folk. The journey deepens with a raw, vulnerable Piano Ballad, before finally settling into the smoky, cinematic atmosphere of late-night Noir Jazz.

From the first sip of morning coffee to the solitude of 3 AM, "Cold Coffee & Old Wood" is the soundtrack for every mood in between.
