Straight From The Record Box | 05.09.2025

Started out a little Hypno House and ended up with some Garage leading into Ellen Allien. Took some risks and they worked out. Always inspiring to play to the sunrise at Gelato Vero Caffe--one of my favorite places in San Diego. Lots of foot traffic and curiosity at what I was doing. I'll consider it a victory. This one was, again, a little faster in BPM than I usually stick to at our sister even Sublime Saturdays.

With the original release of ‘The Difference it Makes’ racking up more than a million Spotify streams, the 2004 hit track by The MFA has been remixed and remastered.

Original MFA Mix:
One of Pitchfork’s top 50 tracks of 2004, Resident Advisor described it at the time as, “Beautiful slices of dubby-tech house with compressed guitars and abstract sliced vocals. From start to finish, the track is minimal in nature. I like it, and I think you will too... The MFA has created something of a hidden gem.”
The record went on to receive support from Gerd Janson, Carl Cox, BLOND:ISH, Sven Väth, James Holden, Michael Mayer, Tim Sweeney, Dusky, Ata, Joseph Capriati, Robag Wruhme, Henry Saiz, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Jody Wisternoff, James Grant, Joe Goddard, and more.

Joe Goddard Remix:
With plenty of plays from Grammy-nominated Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, it seemed only right to ask him to remix the track. The result is an electro-dance number with a big breakdown and main room appeal.

Nathan Fake Remix:
Originally released on James Holden's Border Community, The MFA pay homage with a remix by former labelmate, Nathan Fake – who the duo first met on an internet chat room at the turn of the millennium.

The MFA’s #23 Remix:
Reimagined 23 years after it was first written (with a nod to The KLF), the remix pushes the track deeper onto the dancefloor, with a fresh take on the original.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Notorious for his energetic performances using the full potential of what the decks can offer, Danny involves every floor groover with the emotion of fusing all sub-genres of House music! Having taken stage across Europe's most notable clubs and venues Danny has performed at the infamous Amnesia Ibiza, Kalypso (Elrow) Croatia, We Are Festival, Ministry of Sound, Egg LDN and that’s only to name a few. Having opened for Mark Knight, Tough Love, Leftwing : Kody, Seth Troxler, Danny has since joined the #ToolroomFamily performing at their London residencies at Ministry Of Sound & Studio 338 in which the label is predicting big things for Danny Rhys.

As the son of a professional flamenco singer, Thomas has always been surrounded by music.  Exposure to flamenco influenced him because it has a dynamic range of emotions—from the "deep singing" style of cante hondo, to the more lively alegrias.  He has also worked in the corporate, independent, and online music industry for a number of years.  At one point he was a Content Manager for the Electronic Music genre at MP3.com, where he screened over 500 songs per day.  Exposure to a wide range of music explains the range of genres in his mixes—he uses whatever carries the mood.  From listening to Umm Kulthum's "Enta Omri" in his childhood, to New Wave and  Industrial as a teen, it became difficult for him to stick to one sound. Though vinyl was his original format of choice when he started in the 90s, the use of digital mixing has helped him better form soundscapes to expand your headspace.  Let him play with your moods for a spell.
