Born in the dusk of Goshen, under empire’s iron sky,
Young Joshua ben Nun watched the whips trace questions in the night.
Chains on his people, but a war-drum in his veins,
Learning how to read the silence in his father’s ancient tales.
Sand in his sandals, rumor of freedom in the air,
A boy in the shadows of a Pharaoh’s proud throne,
Yet the rhythm of deliverance was already calling him home.

When Amalek came howling, he was first to take the field,
Sword singing time with the staff on the hill.

Guarding the trembling tent where the Voice passed through,
Living in the hush between commandment and dew.

Twelve men to Canaan with the promise in their eyes,
Ten saw giants, only Joshua ben Nun saw sunrise.
He spoke of a land where the fear could not remain,
While the crowd chose tears and the long road of pain.
Forty years of wandering beneath that burning dome,
Yet Joshua ben Nun kept walking as if he’d already seen home,
Carrying hidden harvest from a land called Zion, not yet his own.

When the old prophet’s days fell thin like desert rain,
A hand on Joshua ben Nun’s shoulder drew the future in frame.
“Be strong and courageous,” the blessing cut clean,
As the glow from Moses’ face slid into Joshua ben Nun’s dream.
Spirit like oil ran quiet through his bones,
The weight of a nation settled into his tones,
Every whispered “yes” grew heavier than stones.

Jordan stopped flowing when his feet kissed the tide,
Ark on the shoulders, whole tribe on the other side.
At Gilgal’s sharp circle, slaves became sons,
First Passover in the land, under stars of Zion.
Around Jericho’s walls they didn’t fight, they swung and blew,
Trumpets for a fortress till the stones came loose,
Sometimes jazz and justice break a city just by truth.

Five kings at Gibeon, storm rolled in,
Joshua ben Nun said, “Sun, stand still,” and the day stretched thin.
Spears like lightning, hailstones in the sky,
Heaven played percussion while the armies ran dry.
North to Hazor, south through smoking fields,
Old maps turned music as the borders were sealed,
The land cut like verses, each tribe with a shield.

In old Shechem’s valley, he called them one more time,
Laid their history on the table like a last slow rhyme.
“Choose this day,” he said, “whom you will serve,”
His own house standing on a straight, unshaken curve.
At a hundred and ten, he folded into earth,
Timnath-Serah cradled the dust of his worth,
And the spirit of Joshua ben Nun lives on in our children today.
