One FM breakfast announcer Plemo is joined by Jay Bryce, journalist from the Shepparton News who has directed 'Underdog' a movie about the Shepparton Gators Basketball team.

Underdog is a McPherson Media Group documentary produced by News senior photographer Megan Fisher and reporter Jay Bryce.

The News followed the Shepparton Gators throughout their 2024 season, for what was their first time in the Big V Championship in two decades, documenting the team’s highs and lows, capturing the essence of what makes the Gators and their story so unique to the sporting community in Shepparton.

Underdog official debut screening will take place at the University of Melbourne Department of Rural Health, which is located at 49 Graham St, Shepparton (opposite GV Health) at 6pm for a 6.30pm start on Thursday, November 21.

Tickets are $15, with all money raised from tickets going towards supporting All Abilities basketball in Shepparton.

Truth Talks: Disinformation in Germany

Aside from Princess Tiana in Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog,” little Black girls rarely ever get to see princesses that look like them—and princess stories from the Caribbean are rarer still. So when ELDONIE MASON’s 5-year-old niece told her she couldn’t be a princess because they were white with long hair, Mason got to work writing a book with a beautiful Black girl as a princess. 

The result is “The Adventures of Princess Anyah of Antibarba: The Fishing Expedition” and Sidebar host KIZZY COX spoke with Mason, who’s originally from Antigua, about the importance of telling Caribbean stories, how her company Predestined Media is aiming to bring more Caribbean content to the forefront and how she’s balancing her entrepreneurial ventures with her full-time career as a lawyer in entertainment, business, fashion and estate planning. Her hard work has yielded numerous accolades including the 2025 Caribbean Boss Lady Award from Carib Biz Network for her vision and positive impact in her field.

In honor of Women’s History Month, Mason’s dedication to Caribbean culture, Black representation and Black financial literacy serves as an inspiring example of the myriad ways women effect change.

He joins to read an essay that explores a number of realizations while reviewing the covers, including his family’s Jewish identity.

Now many Bangladeshis, as well as others from the immigrant background are excelling in their career worldwide. Key to this is to have a strong belief in oneself. Tanvir is now settled in Bangladesh, embracing the challenges and seeing many opportunities to report on the ground news of Bangladesh to the world.

The Wall Street Journal featured Gerami as a “leading gay activist” in its landmark 2008 coverage of opposition to Proposition 8, the ballot measure that for years denied same-sex couples in California the freedom to marry. In addition to his years of volunteer work as a leading advocate for marriage equality, later Gerami went on to serve as a Planning Committee member for the historic Resist March in 2017. Vic Gerami is also a founding board member of Equality Armenia.

In 2015, Gerami was referenced in the landmark Supreme Court civil rights case, Obergefell v. Hodges, in which the Court held in a 5–4 decision that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process and the Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
