It was such a fun night, and from there, we tried it in the studio, it sounded good, and it went from there. I always preferred Townes Van Zandt's version anyway, and that's the one from The Big Lebowski, so when we started doing it, I wanted to lean into that sadness with some slight counterpoint changes, and of course Jaimee's brilliant singing and Dayna Bee's emotive violin combining with Daniel Seymour's deep bowing was transformative." - Afton Wolfe

He has made a career of 40-plus years in music on the non-performer side of the glass.  His time in recording studios has included sessions involving some of the biggest names in music, from Billy Joel to John Lennon to Frank Sinatra.  He built and designed a recording studio in Manhattan that he ended up owning, with an office inside there being home to the personal management company for the legendary Keith Richards.  Another studio that he built was included in a cover story that Mix Magazine did on the ten best studios built in the world at the time.  Present day he is Product Specialist for Equi=Tech.

Last Rites is a fun rock song that I wrote and demoed a few years back that suffered from my vocals.  We decided to recut the track and bring in Emily to belt out this song of romantic despair. It's as close to Springsteen-like as I would ever hope to travel.  The original is here if you'd like to compare versions. We hope you like it. Last Rites (2025)

A few years ago I decided to embrace open tunings on the guitar and this song emerged. The Road to Hell is a Stone-style rocker that borrows the opening riff from Can't You Hear Me Knocking and then chugs on.  I sometimes think it's played too fast resulting in Em having to rush the vocals a bit giving it a somewhat out of breath feel.  We hope you like it! Funk #1 suggests there is a Funk #2, however there is not.  Funk #1 is the product of me playing along with a Stones tune one afternoon and turning it around into something similar sounding but different.  The lyrics are typically vague but universal in tone.  The band finds a nice groove and Em belts it out. We hope you like this little rocking ditty. Well how about that? I was going through my files a few days ago and came across this song that had been recorded a few years back but never edited.  It's a bouncy R & B number that breezes along on a cool melody.  I'm not altogether sure if it's an angry song or a happy one.  You can decide. Darren Young is a singer/songwriter born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is the founder and lead singer for the band “Brigades” (Pure Noise Records). Now Darren’s pursuing a successful solo path while still reuniting with his band from time to time. In 2023 he released his solo LP “Heart Break Hiatus” and his been on tour promoting the album. In late 2024 he dropped his follow up solo LP "Painting a Monster" with singles "Painting a Monster, Astronaut, Face It, Juventus (feat. GaTa) and All for Nothing.

He has been produced by Paul Leaviett & Gene Freeman (Machine), Devin Patrick "King Killumbia" (Def Jam), Additionally outside of Rock, Darren Young has worked exclusively with many major artists such as The Game, GaTa, Gorilla Zoe, Bezz Believe, Pastor Troy & more.

Over a 40 year span, I have written a countless number of songs, alone or in collaboration with others.  Here, you will find the product of those efforts with many songs recently re-recorded.  Frequently, earlier versions live here as well. All songs were written by me (RC Sterling) unless otherwise noted.  While several singers contribute to what you hear, the most common element across the material is a commitment to crafting catchy pop/rock/alternative tunes. In some instances AI programs have been used to isolate older vocal tracks when the original audio files could not be found.  All tracks have been auto tuned and pitch corrected as needed. Unfortunately, nothing could help those demos that featured my lead vocals. 😁
