"Red, but from the Lovers' Mistakes" is an intimate composition reflecting the emotional journey of the composer. Inspired by Bijan Elahi's poem, it explores themes of love and disillusionment. In this piece, I sought to stay true to the nature of the Istanbul Kemence and maintain its lyrical purpose while also venturing into more rhythmic territories and experimenting with extended techniques to add colour to the traditional frame. Drawing inspiration from my roots in Iranian and Azeri music, I blend elements from these rich musical traditions with my background in contemporary classical music. Beginning with a melancholic and solemn atmosphere, made from the icy sounds of the Kemençe and the haunting hum of the voice, the music evokes introspection and uncertainty. It then introduces an expressive and lyrical main theme, which slowly builds up into tense, rhythmic sections, mirroring emotional turbulence.Yet, in the midst of the turmoil, there's a glimmer of hope, and in the end, a recognition of beauty in acceptance.
