What to say here ... that this is my typical fare, maybe? The melodies, woven tapestries passed from one guitar to the next (thus, the song title) as if in the chillest conversation ever, while the bass serves like a backbone cresting under the skin of this beast, for all time.

I love the swing, as I weave my head through the air. Starting simple, the conversation gets more complicated, leaving 6/8 and bouncing back and forth to 5/8 before touching on 10/8 for a breather, and then careening eventually into 9/8 / 7/8 before calming down again. Its the kind of complication I live for.

And, before I'm asked if all that's so necessary ... it is, for what I do. I don't seek the odd time signatures anymore, they are a part of the toolset I've trained myself with for decades now. And believe me, it took a while to figure out I needed that exact 10/8 measure where it is, because it just did not resolve correctly until I found it. Just as the 2/8 measure was necessary. And just as the bouncing 6/8, 6/8, 5/8 -- or 12/8, 5/8 ... or 17/8 ... I prefer the former (formerest? The first one!), really -- would not have worked anywhere near as well in straight 6/8.

I guess you don't really have a choice but to take my word for it ...

Brace for impact.

This song has bugged me for two years. I love it, surely. That squeal in the middle still gives me goosebumps Every. Single. Time. I've tried again and again to add more to the song in any capacity beyond what is already within the recording, but nothing fits. At a mere two minutes and fourteen seconds, these amazing pieces that came together so quickly initially seems like wasted potential.

Having OCD, I can't help but feel a little angsty about the repetition, but shortening the composition would squander the power, the drive that propels it forward. It feels like a car with a jet engine strapped on top. You know it's a bad idea, but you can't help but hold the accelerator down ... knowing once it ignites, there's no stopping it. Time signatures flow like shifting gears ... 11/8, 10/8, 16/8 (or 4/4, if you really want to be pendantic ... but I use those 8th notes, dammit!)
