Enno Poppe ist der Porträtkomponist der diesjährigen Ausgabe des Neue-Musik-Festivals ACHT BRÜCKEN, das vom 4. bis 12. Mai in der Kölner Philharmonie und weiteren Spielstätten stattfindet. In diesem Podcast Spezial ist der Komponist und Dirigent zu Gast bei Patrick Hahn und erzählt von seiner Kindheit im sauerländischen Hemer. Ohne formale Anleitung zog es ihn intuitiv zur Musik, wo er sich zunächst autodidaktisch weiterentwickelte. Die Kölner Philharmonie ist für ihn ein bedeutender Ort, schon als Jugendlicher erlebte er hier Hans Zender und Giacinto Scelsi. Poppe beschreibt die Arbeit mit Ensembles im Vergleich zu Orchestern und spricht über seine Kompositionsprozesse. Unter anderem seine Stücke »Scherben«, »Prozession« und »Speicher« werden beim Festival aufgeführt, und er freut sich darauf, diese und weitere Werke dem Kölner Publikum zu präsentieren.

Spezial: Komponist und Dirigent Enno Poppe im Gespräch mit Patrick Hahn

Der österreichische Komponist Ferdinand Rebay (1880-1953) schuf seine Werke in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Seine vielzähligen Kompositionen haben es verdient, einer größeren Allgemeinheit bekannt gemacht zu werden.

„Das Musikarchiv des Stifts Heiligenkreuz beherbergt eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Ferdinand Rebays Gitarrenmusik, eine unschätzbare Quelle für Gitarristen, die sich für die Musikpraxis interessieren, die im sogenannten „langen 19. Jahrhundert[1]“ (1789-1914) im deutschsprachigen Raum entstand. Rebays Sonaten und Kammermusik sind einzigartig im Gitarrenrepertoire: wirklich anspruchsvolle Musik, die möglicherweise eine historische Lücke füllt. Sie lädt Gitarristen dazu ein, sich einer Tradition anzuschließen, zu der die Gitarre ursprünglich nicht gehörte. Darüber hinaus sind sie brillante Beispiele dafür, wie sich die Wiener Gitarrenszene ab den 1920er Jahren auf unabhängige und beispiellose Weise entwickelte.“

Through sound, images, and words, Wingel Mendoza was exploring temporal memory during his residency at Pavilosta Artist in Residency (PAIR). He was developing various works, including collecting data from scenes in Pavilosta to create an interactive sound sculpture that the audience can engage with as a temporal instrument.

Additionally, he was developing a performance aimed at manipulating these memories in real-time by stretching, shrinking, and altering the meaning of the media sources.

"29 Electronic Tones" explores the ancient wisdom of the I Ching through a modern sonic lens. Each of the 64 hexagrams, symbols of transformation and balance, is represented by an electronic tone or texture. These tones are woven into a meditative journey, evoking the dynamic interplay of yin and yang, chaos and harmony. The piece invites listeners to reflect on cycles of change and the resonance of ancient philosophy in a contemporary digital world.

Als Musiker, Komponist, Songwriter und Unternehmer mit einer Plattenfirma/Musikverlag, schreibe, produziere und vermarkte ich meine eigenen Songs. Das Stift Heiligenkreuz ist eine lebendige Zisterzienserabtei, die schon 1133 gegründet wurde und seither ohne Unterbrechung besteht. Das Kloster ist die größte kulturelle und geistliche Attraktion des Wienerwaldes und wird jährlich von ca. 120.000 Touristen aus aller Welt besucht.

NEUES LEBEN e.V. ist ein Missions- und Bildungswerk. Der Auftrag ist Evangelisation und Menschen das Evangelium von Jesus Christus zu verkünden durch Wort und Tat.

My personal interest like a composer and Sound Artist is to expand the context of sound building my own analogue or digital instruments or using external sources like electronic means (live electronics, video, space, image and movement) and also, the interaction with other arts such as dance and/or Theatre, in order to create new possibilities and new ways of perception for the audience. As an Improviser, wingel looks for different devices as a source of sound, from analog to digital and programming, such as; tape recordings, tape loops, toys, DJ turntables and Supercollider for audio Synthesis. Moreover, he had improvised for different theatres and dance companies. In addition, he had improvised as a soloist and with different ensembles.

In search of new musical inspiration, Benjamin founded his alias BernsteinZimmer.
Since then, he has been pursuing a desire to combine his musical origins, improvisation, classical and jazz music with electronic-conceptual music.
