Meet Jay Gilday: musician, postal worker, and host of Clock In. Delivering mail in Edmonton has always felt meaningful for Jay. Imagine his surprise when he found out his grandfather did the same work in the Northwest Territories – by dogsled.

In this first episode of Clock In, follow Jay to the picket line to learn why he and his fellow workers decided to put it all on the line by going on strike. Then hear him sing at open mic night at River City Revival – including a song he wrote to honour his connection to his grandfather, “Shoes.”

What parts of ourselves do we bring to our jobs? How much does our work define us? This episode is the start of a journey to understand how Edmontonians’ work and family lives shape each other, and the world around us.

At the Institut Iliade’s 12th Annual Colloquium in Paris, Zsófia Rácz explored the central - yet often overlooked - role of unpaid labour, most frequently carried out by women: household tasks, child-rearing, charitable work, and religious involvement.
This invisible effort, absent from economic statistics, forms the true social backbone of our civilisation.

Through historical examples, contemporary reflections - such as the “tradwife” phenomenon- and personal testimony, she called for a re-evaluation of what “work” really means.
Beyond remuneration, it is this selfless dedication that sustains the continuity and vitality of our European communities.

👤 Zsófia Rácz served as Hungary’s Youth Delegate to the United Nations (2017–2018), later as political adviser, Deputy State Secretary, and Ministerial Commissioner. In 2023, she embraced her most precious role: motherhood. After her maternity leave, she joined the Danube Institute and became an ambassador for the Wacław Felczak Institute.

How unpaid labour shaped European civilisation

The team recorded the podcast straight after the Budget to share their instant reactions. They covered the Office for Budget Responsibility’s early report release and the pre-Budget leaks. Richard Hattersley shared his view on the announcements and what surprised him. Tom Herbert sank his teeth into some tech news, with e-invoicing and Making Tax Digital making the cut.
Paul Baker, tax partner at Buzzacott and speaker at the Finance, Accounting & Bookkeeping Show (FAB), joined to share his take. He discussed the day and what measures stood out. He mentioned the impact of extending the income tax and employer national insurance thresholds, whether this was the way forward and the issue of applying NICs to salary-sacrificed pension contributions of about £2k a year. He concluded the podcast by sharing concerns that he had and the next steps for a tax expert like himself.

Concrètement, l’Institut ILIADE se donne pour vocation la transmission de la longue mémoire européenne.
Cette volonté de transmission passe par des actions de formation, de réflexion, d’information et de communication, afin de faire partager au plus grand nombre l’histoire et la mémoire de la civilisation européenne.

L’Institut traite de l’ensemble des aspects de la civilisation européenne, en insistant sur sa singularité, sa grandeur et son attrait toujours actuel. Il s’agit de fournir du sens et des repères, en particulier aux jeunes générations d’Européens qui seront confrontés aux conséquences vraisemblablement tragiques des événements en cours.

La vocation principale de l’Institut ILIADE est en effet de former des jeunes hommes et des jeunes femmes soucieux de leur histoire toujours à construire. Armés d’une forte culture relative aux traditions et aux valeurs européennes, ils apprennent à discerner ce que l’aventure qui les attend suppose de risques et d’abnégation, mais aussi d’enthousiasme et de joie. Ils sont les animateurs du nécessaire réveil européen, capables de donner à l’action civique ou politique la dimension culturelle et métapolitique indispensable. Leur mot d’ordre : se mettre au service d’une communauté de destin, qui risque de disparaître si elle ne se prend pas en main.

Dans la continuité de la pensée et de l’action de Dominique Venner, une place essentielle est accordée à l’histoire, à la fois matrice d’une méditation profonde de l’à-venir et lieu de l’imprévu, où tout reste donc possible.

L’originalité de l’ILIADE est, notamment par un travail de reformulation et d’actualisation des connaissances, d’allier le sérieux des contenus à leur facilité d’appréhension par le grand public, en particulier par l’usage du numérique. L’objectif est de faire preuve d’une authentique pédagogie, et d’agir en complémentarité ou en soutien des autres initiatives visant les mêmes objectifs.

L’Institut ILIADE s’attache fondamentalement à diffuser une vue du monde en rupture avec le moment mortifère que nous connaissons aujourd’hui, ainsi qu’une attitude d’insoumission à l’égard de la pensée conforme, et ce par tous les moyens disponibles (communication virale, livres, presse, formation, organisation de manifestations et d’activités culturelles, constitution et animation de réseaux…).
