In part 2 of our interview with Baltimore emcee Labtekwon, we cover a lot of ground. We specifically focus on the power of culture and how there are constant attempts to undermine,  co-opt, rename and exploit it.

We speak about the failure of elders to safeguard culture and how that can be corrected. He noted that its extremely important that we invest in our community and uplift our culture. 

Labtekwon spoke at length about Hip Hop in the Academy and how we are seeing the unfolding of the Academic Industrial Complex. He noted that there are specific types of rigorous methodology that are often not applied because many are not willing to do the work. Lab noted that needs to be challenged and he's one to do it..

A Different Kind of Dope: 90's Baltimore Random Rap Mix Vol. 1

The Middle East is a term used to describe what is actually parts of Northern Africa, Southwest Asia and portions of Southern Europe. One of, if not the most contentious areas in the so-called Middle East is the area associated with the State of Israel and the Palestinian territories. Palestine has long been occupied by indigenous peoples, but in May of 1946; U.S. President Harry Truman approved the recommendation of to allow 100,000 displaced European Jews into Palestine towards the formation of a Jewish state. On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel and United States President Harry S. Truman recognized the new state of Israel the same day. Overnight, the  region would never be the same. Since that time there has been great strife over who has rights to the region, with a series of wars and conflicts that have caused the loss of many lives on all sides. However, in the 21st century, the conflict has shifted dramatically, with the State of Israel as a powerful nation with great military power and international influence, while the Palestinian people are poverty stricken subjected to apartheid like conditions and what some people consider a genocide at the hands of the Israeli State.  Dr. Martin Luther King said: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
