I wanted to test the capabilities of GarageBand for iPad – a $5 application available through the iTunes App Store – so I decided to recreate a popular song as closely as possible using GarageBand as my only tool. I chose the song “Someone Great” by LCD Soundsystem (one of my favorites). The original song can be found here: http://bit.ly/JVp1Ss.

A few notes:
•	The point of this was to recreate the song as accurately as possible, not to put my creative touch on it. I tried to emulate all the instruments individually using only the sounds that come preinstalled with GarageBand. This song syncs up with the original version second for second. 
•	This was done entirely by ear, so I may have a couple notes wrong occasionally. If you hear any errors, let me know!
•	I didn’t try to do the vocals, because I can’t sing (let alone like James Murphy) and I thought it would distract from the project. But I did include the bells, which follow the vocal melody. (In that sense the track is closer to section 3 of 45:33, an earlier version of the same song by LCD Soundsystem without vocals - available here: http://tny.gs/NqREwx.)
•	Some things I could not figure out how to emulate: the fade-in intro and the oscillating whine in the intro and outro, for example.
•	I do not own the rights to this song. This was done purely for fun. And science.

Someone Great (JT's GarageBand iOS Mix)

This is a little remix I did of LCD Soundsystem's "Time to Get Away" in early 2008.  The track comes from their 2007 album entitled "Sound of Silver".  I was inspired by their live performance at Austin City Limits festival and I felt that an old skool breakbeat version would be cool

In any event, I came across it a couple weeks ago and decided share it.
