Anna Fowlie is Chief Executive of the SSSC. Before that she headed up the Scottish Government team improving outcomes for Looked After Children. She has also worked for COSLA.

Steph Gray, as far as we know, was the first person in central government employed to deploy and embed social media skills and techniques across the organisation. He is now Director of Helpful Technology Ltd, a digital innovation agency, helping clients to use digital tools and techniques to work more effectively and save money.

In August 2010 at Cedars, Fraser successfully led the world's first 1:1 deployment of iPads in a whole-school setting. He will explain the rationale behind the decision to invest in iPads and describe their impact on teaching and learning at Cedars School of Excellence in Greenock.

Fraser Speirs is Director of Connected Flow, Ltd. He is also the Head of Computing and IT at Cedars School of Excellence in Greenock, Scotland. He has previously worked at the University of Glasgow on IT projects supporting the Large Hadron Collider experiment at CERN.

Krista Rompolski: How one conversation at HAPS lead to bigger things.

Nompilo has been working educational technology in both student and staff development since 2005. She currently manages a range of teaching and research technologies in terms of licencing and training. She is also a researcher in educational technology and academic staff development, and is passionate about challenging academics to be critically reflective about their use of educational technology.

I initially met her when we were both participants of a teaching and learning course at Rhodes University in the early 2000’s, and both lecturing in other departments. Years later, we landed up as colleagues at the Centre for Higher Education Research, Teaching and Learning (CHERTL) - and certainly I benefited in my own development through our interactions! 

In this interview, we discuss Nompilo’s interest in critical studies in educational technology in higher education.

Dina Zoe Belluigi is an academic of Higher Education Studies currently based in Northern Ireland at Queen’s University Belfast. Previous to this, she was a Senior Lecturer at Rhodes University in South Africa. Her research and teaching concerns are to do with issues of agency and social justice in the academy, in the larger ecology of authority and critical citizenry, and in contexts grappling with legacy issues, particularly inequality. She is an Associate Fellow of the George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice and a member of the British Academy Critical University Studies network.
