REST YOUR IDENTITY is a part of Ju Bavyka’s long-term project ‘On Rest’. This most recent iteration involves a performative facilitation practice that leans on meditation, where you are invited to identify parts of your identity that require a little rest, revision, and kind re-integration on better terms.

In this audio recording, artist Phil Baird talks about his exhibition 'The Long Walk to Home Village SE3', taking place at Arts Network in July-Aug 2024. Phil talks about his artistic journey, his years of experience living and working in Lewisham and his relationship with Arts Network.

The Long Walk to Home Village SE3 is a retrospective exhibition, designed as a ‘give-back’ to the Lewisham community, which has been home to the Award Winning artist Phil Baird for over four decades. Phil uses rare, locally sources, unusual and upcycled materials from  Deptford market and local charity shops. Phil’s works are a form of visual poetry. He creates imaginary worlds from memory and invented content. This exhibition displays drawings, prints, paintings, tactile pieces, construction, assemblages, combining representing aspects, contrasted with dialogue between the different media, bridging an outer world and an inner reality.

The first part of Phil’s retrospective took place at Lewisham Arthouse earlier this summer. Titled There is Always a Wish in Lewisham, this exhibition featured over 80 works. Arts Network is honoured to present the second part of the retrospective, titled The Long Walk to Home Village SE3. Phil has been a member of for over 24 years. Along with prints and assemblages, Phil has displayed his iconic sketchbooks, each one being a wealth of drawing, curiousity, wonder, memories and material, collected over the decades.

Phil has been awarded with the Queen’s Platinum Anniversary Award for voluntary service,  the Millennium Award Fellowship and the Jerwood Drawing Prize. He is an ambassador for Outside Inn and Dragon Cafe, and has exhibited all over London, often in Church premises.

Long Walk to Home Village SE3

The Lewisham Well-Being anthem is an experimental music project by Multi-Disciplinary community facilitator and activist Toni-Ann Gurdon.
An open call out was made to invite Lewisham residents to join a community workshop on the 19th of August 2023. The genesis of the track started with the process of learning how to song write after a dynamic discussion around wellbeing, self expression and affirmations. This Anthem showcases the voices of Lewisham residents delivering a feel good vibe to any eardrums from around the globe.
