Lo-fi-ish tune I made a while back and never published. I shined it up recently. Hope you enjoy it.

Don't Say... (Listen)

This is the latest Interbay track to drop here on SoundCloud--and I have the cheeky gall to have put the "minimal" tag on this one, as I did with yesterday's track.  While true in parts, I suppose, there's certainly plenty of Interbay maximalism on display in this track...which pretty much negates the idea of "minimalism."  

The track started off rather simply.  180bpm.  There's a new FLEX pack out ("Colors"), and I just picked a sound from it at random and made it a bassline (that, upon hearing it, somehow reminds me of "Entertain Me" by Soft Cell--if you're a grognard like me, let me know if you hear it, too!)  Then, I added another synth...and made a bassline out of that.  And then I added a third synth...and, you guessed it, I made a bassline out of it.  

...then I added a sub.  

Then, I added a synth I almost only ever use for basslines--and I made a lead line out of it!  (Though, it is still kind of bass-y.)  

I think I had in mind a dark uptempo synthpop thing...  I grabbed a simple vocal sample of a gal saying "Yeah"--made that the temporary project name and then, I would have said with 70% of the track done, I saved it, put it to the side and worked on another project before crashing last night.  

This morning, I woke up (which is good, otherwise, you wouldn't be reading this) and recognized that the track I was working as I fell asleep needed longer than it would take to polish up "Yeah."
So, I decided to drop "Yeah" today--figuring it wouldn't take me very long to finish it.  

...and then, I Interbayed all over the damn thing.  

"Oh yeah, that can happen."

Suddenly, there's a whole lot of EDM touches to what had been a retro track.  There's hyperedits, there's risers, builds, fake-outs, drops, and other samples (some don't even say "yeah"!!!)  

"Drop?  Yeah!"

It's still uptempo.  It's still on the dark side of things (though even I can't legitimately call it "darkwave"...can I?)  But at 180bpm, dropping a breakbeat pushed me towards a section of drum & bass that, while exciting, means this track can't really be called "synth pop" any more...

It's...it's...ummmm...well, it's Interbay, innit?  

(To quote Junkyard Digs again, "I don't know if it's fixed, but it's different.")  

As always, I tucked some fun easter eggs (how seasonally appropriate!) and references in for those of you paying attention--but I think even if those unlikely catch them, the tune itself is delightfully weird and energetic, I think you'll like it, if you listen to it!
