I FACTORY (Mark I) rileggono Almost Cut My Hair di David Crosby con un piglio radicalmente diverso rispetto alla versione originale incisa dai CSN&Y su Déjà Vu. Se l’originale era un inno sofferto alla libertà individuale, intriso di pathos e chitarre incrociate, la versione dei FACTORY vira verso un’intensità nevrotica, quasi elettrica, mantenendo il grido libertario ma caricandolo di una tensione più urbana e instabile.
La chitarra di Davide Spanu è tagliente, nervosa, costruisce e disfa con continui contrasti dinamici, mentre Silvio Vinci si prende il carico emotivo e strutturale che nell’originale era distribuito su più mani: alterna piano elettrico e organo Hammond in una tessitura mai ornamentale, ma sempre incisiva, quasi febbrile. La sezione ritmica di Chris Pain al basso e Luca Monaco alla batteria tiene tutto in piedi con una solidità che non è mai statica, ma sempre pronta a spingere o rallentare a seconda delle fughe emotive del brano.

Una versione decisamente più rock, urbana e cruda, che pur perdendo l’intreccio vocale e chitarristico del quartetto originario, guadagna in urgenza espressiva, grazie al talento del vocalist Fabrizio Cherubini, con la sua interpretazione viscerale e aggressiva. È un Almost Cut My Hair che non guarda al passato, ma scava nel presente. E lo fa con classe.

Registrata dal vivo a Porto Torres nell’estate del 2017, questa versione di Season of the Witch rappresenta uno dei momenti più alti della fase psichedelica dei FACTORY (Mark I). Il brano – già carico di mistero nella sua versione originale – viene qui dilatato, destrutturato e ricomposto in una chiave che fonde il cosmic rock tedesco (alla Amon Düül II o primi Can) con la psichedelia californiana oscura e lisergica dei Doors.

Al centro della scena, la voce magnetica e teatrale di Fabrizio Cherubini, capace di alternare sussurri evocativi e grida allucinate, dialoga in modo fluido con le trame sonore che la circondano. Davide Spanu tesse linee di chitarra acida e visionaria, mentre Silvio Vinci al Hammond costruisce muri di suono ipnotici, pulsanti e spirituali.
La sezione ritmica, solida e minimalista (Chris Pain al basso, Luca Monaco alla batteria), lascia ampio spazio alla dilatazione temporale: il brano respira, si espande, si ritrae, come un organismo vivo.

I FACTORY (Mark I) rileggono Love the One You’re With di Stephen Stills spogliandola delle morbidezze californiane dell’originale e portandola su un terreno decisamente più elettrico, asciutto e rock. Registrata dal vivo nel 2017 al Beat61, la versione della band è una dichiarazione d’intenti: niente fronzoli, solo groove, energia e presenza scenica.
Fabrizio Cherubini, alla voce, canta con piglio deciso e coinvolgente, trasformando la serenità west-coast in una sorta di mantra ritmico e urbano. La chitarra di Davide Spanu è protagonista assoluta: riff graffianti, dinamiche vive, e un suono sporco quanto basta, che traghetta il brano verso territori garage e soul-rock.
Chris Pain al basso costruisce una linea portante pulsante, essenziale ma potente, mentre Luca Monaco alla batteria lavora con precisione e groove, spingendo senza mai strafare. A dare profondità e colore c’è Silvio Vinci all’Hammond, che regala momenti di vibrazione psichedelica e toni gospel, in perfetta sintonia con lo spirito degli anni ’60.
Il risultato è una versione più terrena, diretta e “stradale” del brano: meno eterea, più concreta, ma piena di anima e forza collettiva. Un pezzo che, in questa veste, sembra scritto apposta per i FACTORY.
