When the Emperor’s New Groove first began production, it was originally titled “Kingdom of the Sun” and was supposed to be a Prince and the Pauper-like story set in the Incan Empire. Kuzco was originally called Manco (still voiced by David Spade), and while he was the selfish arrogant prince who had to go through development, he wasn’t the hero. Instead, it was Pacha, who was then only eighteen in the original draft and voiced by then newcomer Owen Wilson, and a simple llama herder who came to the palace to find his llama Snowball. The pair would meet and decide to switch to live out each other’s lives, but then Yzma—a then more traditional Disney renaissance villain—finds out and turns Manco into a llama. 
Basically, Pacha is stuck in Manco’s role for a while. He meets Manco’s fiance, a temple maiden named Nina (Carla Gugino). It’s kind of like Aladdin where she doesn’t know his identity and thinks he’s someone else, and they fall in love. But without the “liar revealed” trope I guess (back when that trope was handled well in animated movies). Apparently at the last minute while trying to cobble together the film because Disney executives kept rushing the original director, they added in a love interest for Manco as well. This is one of the deleted songs composed by Sting that got put on the official film soundtrack. Feeling bad for any kid who grew up listening to this and had no fucking clue what this song was supposed to be about. I admit I did a little of audio editing so the vocals are a bit less clouded by the instrumentals. 
I think the Yzma scrapped song "Snuff out the Light" was the best of the deleted songs, but this one's alright. It definitely works as a love ballad but honestly doesn't compare to other Disney 90s love songs, and even for a 2000 release it would've felt way too out of place.

Felt like since Yzma's song has pitched up and lowered pitch versions, this song should get some of that treatment.

My story is the same as probably so many.  I always wanted to write music and share it, to express it, to let others feel it.  Like so many before me - life took over.  Responsibility.  Sure, I could have gone after the things I loved, but I felt the responsibility, so off around the world I went.  That was truly amazing, too.  But always tapping on my shoulder was the desire to write.  So I kept at it, just never doing anything with it.
