To show my appreciation for hitting 2K SoundCloud followers, I put this 170 BPM, 1.25min set together to say a BIG THANKYOU for your support over the decades. Given my most liked and downloaded sets are my old and new Darkside sets, I've stayed true to the core on this one.

Full of personal Darkside favs, some tunes you've heard on earlier mixes but most of them I'm mixing for the first time. This is an epic journey into darkness. It starts with ThugWindows mind fuck of a tune into Photek's new B. side tune coming out soon on "The Forge" to then full-on Darkside escapism with Ricky Force and Acid Lab, finishing with 2 of my all-time fav bangers, Loxy's Devine Light and Homemade Weapon's biggest weapon to date, Dark Star Remix. In mid-2020, the Tech Itch camp started sending emails teasing Moving Shadow-related action. It was a bright spot in the darkness of the pandemic, which was in many ways about things ending. This was something starting, or picking up a thread long abandoned. Moving Shadow, the most important dnb label of the '90s, trailed off in the 00s for any number of reasons.

Over/Shadow 01 dropped in November 2020, somewhat innocently with Blame's Lift Off/Star Traveller, tracks clearly made circa '96-'99. But unlike many pandemic-era DAT unearthing projects, the label then looked ahead. Since then, O/S has featured both Moving Shadow alumni (Dom & Roland, Technical Itch, Nookie, Flytronix) and current artists building on their legacy (ASC, Detboi, Abstract Drumz, Nectax).

5 years is both a short and a long time. In dnb, it's long, enough to build what I think of as a center. The music has countless branches now, some far removed from its roots. Over/Shadow has bridged the past with the future with intention and authenticity - no cash grab remixes, no publicity stunts. The label's confidence shows in its high number of two-track 12" releases. Today's profusion of music and high pressing costs have made four-track releases the norm. It's a statement now for a label to say, here are two tracks, they are enough.

This mix had to start with "Lift Off", but I had no preconceived notions otherwise. Fairly quickly an arrangement suggested itself: a warmup first third, a banging middle, a deeper last movement. The quiet winner here is DJ Trax, with 20% of the track list - 3 solo tracks and 2 collabs as Mixrace with Paradox.

These 25 tunes (and one tease) present just one path through the already considerable O/S discography. They omit a good number of anthems and great releases - a completely different track list would be just as valid. (In fact, there's probably a non-dnb mix lurking in the catalogue.) This is just my snapshot of Over/Shadow right now. That was what Moving Shadow excelled at back in the day, documenting the music. We are fortunate that Over/Shadow has carried on this work.

DJing 92-Present

Australian Born 1971. Dutch Mother / English Father (which has influenced my music between UK breakbeat and Euro hardcore)

Rikochet began his DJing career at age 20 in the fresh and very underground 1991 Rave era. At the time, he was in the Australian Navy, which is how his earlier Dj pseudenyom Popeye was created. Popeye’s first set launched at the legendary O’Mallys Hotel, Sunday recovery parties in Brougham St, Kings Cross. Playing all styles of dance music from House, Trance, Rave, Hardcore, Breakbeat and Jungle. He became part of Sydney’s Rave and Breakbeat culture. DJing at various venues all around Sydney’s Clubs, Pubs, and Warehouses, he become well known for his piano breakbeat and driving bass line-style morning sets. With the release of the very popular, Junglistic Rowdiness and N4CER tape series, Popeye’s sound was in demand.
During his 3-year Rave career, Popeye played alongside Carl Cox, Slipmatt and a range of great Australian DJ’s. As a DJ competition panel judge, he also played numerous radio shows and was a columnist on the topic of Breakbeat and Jungle in the Rave journal, Juicy Red Apple & D&B in the UK "Knowledge" magazine.
As a JMA founding member, Popeye was instrumental in championing the new cutting edge sound of Jungle / Drum n Bass to Sydney through his various (and highly collectible) mix tapes. After the release of the JMA tapes (Vol 1. Jungle Massive Australia) in 1995, and a booking at Sydney’s Big Day Out festival (1997), Popeye changed names to Rikochet, and became the first Australian DJ to play Triple JJJ’s Mixup national program 3 times. 
Since then, Rikochet has played alongside some of the most influential DJ’s and producers of the D&B community, such as Moving Shadow’s Rob Playford, Grooverider, Ratty, DJ SS, Kenny Ken, Dr S. Gachet, Chemistry & Storm, and DJ Rap with MC Fearless to name a few.
After moving to Santa Barbara in 2015, Rikochet has joined forces with the L.A. 13 Crowz crew and more recently with the SB Junglecats
30 years on, Rikochet now lives in California where he spends his free time balancing between a passion for Drum & Bass, Breaks, Tech House & loads of Old Skool Jungle Techno , with a vinyl collection to die for.
