The Original Sound:

On a Renaissance lute, the piece sounds much more "silvery" and delicate than on a modern guitar. 

This is because:

Double Strings: Lutes have "courses" (pairs of strings), which create a natural chorus effect.

G-tuning: The lute’s 3rd string is tuned to F# instead of G. To play the original lute fingering on your guitar, you would have to tune your 3rd string down a half-step.

Insteresting fact about this song:

The piece was rediscovered in the late 1800s by musicologist Oscar Chilesotti, who found it in an ancient manuscript.

Pezzo Tedesco (German Dance).

While the piece is technically anonymous, it is most strongly associated with the Italian musicologist Oscar Chilesotti (1848–1916). 

Chilesotti did not compose it; instead, he discovered and transcribed it from a mysterious 16th-century manuscript known as the Codice Lauten-Buch del Cinquecento. In modern guitar circles, it is often grouped with his "Six Lute Pieces of the Renaissance". 

Key Details on Authorship:

The Original Source: The piece was originally a lute song titled "Se io m'accorgo ben mio d'un altro amante" ("If I notice, my dear, another lover").

Potential Candidate: Some scholars have pointed to the 16th-century Italian composer Marco Facoli as a potential author, as he published a similar keyboard version in 1588.

Educational Role: Frederick Noad included it as a 'Study' in his book to help students practice slurs (hammer-ons and pull-offs) and moving between voices. 

Historical Context:

Because the original lutenist who wrote this down in their personal notebook (codex) didn't sign their name, the piece remains officially "Anonymous". However, without Chilesotti's efforts to save these ancient melodies from obscurity, this piece would likely have been lost to history. 

Imagine this scene of 16th-century Italy:

Imagine a narrow, winding alley in Renaissance Florence at dusk. The heat of the day still radiates from the terracotta-coloured stone walls, and the air is thick with the scent of dried herbs, blooming jasmine, and the distant salt of the Mediterranean.

Above, a carved stone balcony is draped in heavy vines. A young man stands in the long, blue shadows of the street below, cradling a Renaissance lute. Unlike the formal concerts of the King’s court, this music is personal—it is a lute song, a private message meant for a single set of ears.

As he plays the opening chords of "Se io m’accorgo ben mio d'un altro amante", his voice is a low, urgent whisper that blends with the delicate plucking of the gut strings. The title translates to "If I notice, my dear, another lover," and you can feel the suspicion and longing in the melody. 

Every time he plays a slur (a hammer-on or pull-off that you’ve been practicing), it sounds like a sigh or a catch in his breath.

A single shutter on the balcony above creaks open just an inch, casting a sliver of warm lamplight across his face. He doesn't look up; he keeps his eyes on the fretboard, his fingers moving through the polyphonic lines you see in the Noad book. 

In this world, music is a language of secrets, where a simple "anonymous" tune like this could be the difference between a broken heart and a midnight tryst.

From the bitter roots of cante jondo, Andari raises the trunk of flamenco towards branches of avant-garde electronic music.

This project is the adventure of two colleagues: the duo is formed by the voice and percussion of Antonio Lahoz and the production of Omar Poblador (Ompogu). Together they explore the fusion of the purest tradition with the most diverse subgenres of electronica, creating a unique and soulful sound.

Been playing bossa since 2018. Currently learning Aquarela Do Brazil. Just created a 10 Track Playlist with Classical Songs from The Famous Guitar Book: Solo Guitar Playing by Frederik M Noad.

I’m a composer and multi-instrumentalist creating music for games, film and collaborative projects.

My work is driven by curiosity and a love of exploring new sounds, styles and textures. I've a background spanning traditional music and experimental electronic production, drawing from a wide range of influences and approaches. I'm particularly fascinated by interactive media and the unique experiences it can create.

Having spent a lifetime playing with other musicians in bands and ensembles, I've always valued the collaborative side of music-making. I enjoy working closely with developers and filmmakers to create music that brings their worlds to life through atmosphere and emotional storytelling.
