Q. What inspiration did you draw upon when planning this mix, and what type of listening environment could you imagine it being easily enjoyed in? 

A. I recorded this poddy on the Wild Lady, my girlfriend’s canal boat. I find a lot of inspiration digging & plotting here - I’m surrounded by nature and the slow pace of the canal unplugs me from distractions. 

I guess it depends what side of the world you’re listening 🙃 There’s quite a bit of sunkissed house in here, so down under it could keep ya sizzlin’ nicely at a bbq or with a warm brew and biccy for us in cooler climates. 

Q. Are there any songs in the mix that are especially close to your heart, and what is it about these tracks that resonate with you so much?

A. The closing track ‘Does It Really Matter’ by Jeff Dam is a real beauty, there’s something about blissful & groovy breaks which always connects with me. Also shout out to Pistaccio, there’s one from his EP on Magic Carpet last year.

Q. What’s the latest with the Magic Carpet label you run alongside @djappleb? Any upcoming releases you’re particularly jazzed about?

A. We’re celebrating 5-years riding the carpet this year, with some lovely treats to share. The 1st instalment is a EP from b0n with some slammin’ breaks, check the clips up on our SC ⚡️

Q. I know you guys do a regular label night at the legendary Lisbon club Lux Fragil, how would you describe the energy of those nights, and what’s next in the pipeline?

A. Deeply active, big love to our crew who bring the nrg! On the 7th of Feb we’ve got Malika bringing her aromatic grooves and our homie Velvet Velour on closing business, should be a sweet one.

Some tracks don’t arrive - they unfold, slowly and with intention, like sunlight creeping across a floor. Swallow, the B1 cut from Pistaccio’s upcoming EP "The Brave Gardener" on Kepler’s Perspective imprint, is exactly that kind of presence. Calm but playful, deep yet unpretentious, it doesn’t kick down doors - it slides in through the side, smiling like it knows the rhythm better than you do.

Emerging from Sydney’s fertile underground and already known for releases on tastemaking labels like Magic Carpet, Pistaccio may be a new name to some, but his groove is seasoned. “Swallow” is a testament to that. Anchored by a fluid, rolling bassline that moves like ink across water, the track drips with finesse. It whispers UK Garage in its inflection - a nod more than a reference - with subtle vocal chops fluttering in and out like half-caught thoughts on a breezy afternoon.

But this isn’t a genre study. “Swallow” is its own garden: meticulously planted, rhythmically pruned, effortlessly alive. The percussive palette is crisp yet restrained, always in service of the groove, never overreaching. Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
