My latest entry to the FB ComposerMovie Character Challenge #21 - Hannibal Lecter

For this challenge, I've tried to insinuate Hannibal Lecter's madness in the introduction of the composition. I busy myself to imagine that in his head, it is an organized chaos. A mind that is so intelligent and yet is incredibly manifested with intention to harm another individual without feeling any remorse nor emotion. He's a horrifying monster disguised with a face of a trained professional and with the elegance of an impeccable artist.

The infamous Manhunter, my friend DCI Colin Sutton interviewed on Park Radio by presenter Paul Stephen. The first of the several times I had the pleasure of interviewing Colin, before he went off on a nation wide tour.

Over his thirty plus year career in comics, Archie Goodwin racked up a lot of accomplishments. He wrote horror stories for lots of Warren Publishing's anthologies. At DC, he wrote Detective Comics, Manhunter (more on both of those later), and was the editor behind Batman: Black and White, the early issues of Legends of the Dark Knight and James Robinson's Starman. At Marvel, he co-created The New Universe (they can't all be winners...). But possibly the biggest accomplishment, before his untimely passing in 1998, was that he was regarded as the nicest guy in comics. Everyone loved Archie. So this week, we're reading his first story on Detective, the Manhunter backups he wrote for that same series and a loving, tongue in cheek tribute done in the animated series style.

Episode 45 of Canon Fodder is served with fava beans and a nice Chianti. That’s right, it’s Hannibal. Ed, Pat, and Matt get right into the twisted world of serial killers and cannibalism by taking you through the surprisingly deep breadth of Hannibal content. From the first on-screen appearance of Thomas Harris’s characters in Michael Mann’s Manhunter all the way through the recent and exceptional series with Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal, Will Graham, and others are characters that have stood the test of time.

Started as a mobile DJ with Chymes International mobile disco’s at Windsor Safari Park (now Legoland)  which led to my move to the Middle East to DJ at the Gulf Hotel in Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman (which truly changed my life!) and my first introduction to broadcasting, firstly as a (useless) newscaster at Radio Oman (2 hours of English-language broadcasting per day) and then presenting a weekly programme (recorded on my disco unit in the Hotel!) I called ‘DiscOman’ (clever eh?) 2.5 years DJ-ing in Muscat led to my relocation to Bahrain, the Island where I truly cut my teeth on music radio, working with a top crew of English broadcasters on Radio Bahrain, a commercial, English-language, National radio station and interviewing such luminaries as Professor Jimmy Edwards and Eric Sykes, Derek Nimmo, Patrick McNee, Petula Clarke and even Andrew Ridgely (Wham!) and Edwin Starr. Returning (eventually) to the UK, having a Radio Broadland presenter as a customer of the pub I bought, I was invited to become a late night presenter, then went onto early evenings and then finally took promotion to Drive Time, on the regional, commercial radio station, Radio Broadland (the Big Time!).  In addition, I had a spell with BBC Radio Norfolk and finally ended a career, perhaps unusually, not exclusively as a radio presenter, but back in broadcasting again with local radio station Park Radio where, once again, I ended up interviewing very many well known celebrities and performers, such as Shakatak, Lindisfarne, Paul Young, Joni Mitchell, Si Cranstoun, The Real Thing etc.

A composer who does not know how to read & write note music, nor to play any musical instrument.  Thanks to modern technology though, I've found the midi tools & VST Instruments to transfer the music from my busy head to actual audible tunes.
