When we started the Ultrasoft Notes project, we imagined it as a fascinating opportunity to discover our friends’ musical tastes outside of function-based dance music contexts. Since the inaugural mixtape, we’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much these contributions allow us to connect with our guests on a deeper level — not through verbal narratives, but through intricate meditations expressed in sound.

Anton is someone we have held in high regard throughout the years of knowing him. He is a true genius — combining impeccable taste with an inspiring obsession for the art of digging. This edition of Notes reflects exactly what we’ve come to expect from him, and somehow still offers more. It is intelligent, carefully considered, and expansive in its content. 

In these times of confusion, distress, and conflict, we invite you to listen. We hope that this mix brings you feelings of love and care. #stopgenocide

𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝓐𝓷𝓽𝓸𝓷:
I. Fundamental
Colocalization pertains to the method of checking whether two or more kinds of cells are co-located in a specific frame. Different colors are assigned to different cells and a software identifies which cells are co-located in the frame; however, this is not to say that these two types are interacting with one another as these could just be floating on top of each other at a microscopic scale. This fascinated me as it can be analogous to the abstractness of music. We don’t see music physically, yet as we listen, we feel as if the music is there. 

II. Technical
What I did was I ‘colocalize’d all my past mix recordings to look for similarities. The result is this symbiosis of all the music I want to share, where it feels tangible to my surroundings. I sought after tracks that can colocalize through multiple seasons such as the sound of the warm summer and the cool of the monsoon rain.

Pink Manila is my debut project, created during my three-month summer break before college. I was inspired by Donald Glover’s words about how many demos are sitting in the dust because artists wait for the “perfect time.” Instead of waiting, I decided now is the perfect time to share my work.

Arianne began her journey of self-healing around 10 years ago when the life she had planned out for herself couldn’t happen. She has learned Reiki, Innerdance, and more recently sound baths for her own self-healing and the healing of others. Arianne works as a consultant for USAID specializing in gender equality for development projects in southeast Asia.

Sound Bath Sessions, fuses sound and wellness by recording sound baths around Asia. The main purpose of the project is to be a platform that connects local practitioners and listeners together. 

These are not your usual sound bath recordings. Recorded live and on location, they are honest portraits of what a live sound bath sounds like to immerse you in their world. They capture the flavor of each location giving them a sense of identity and culture for everyone to hear and belong. 

Please note that some recordings may contain noises that could make the experience quite challenging, but listeners of all levels will be able to find a track to enjoy. Sound Bath Sessions is a Bivouac Recording project.
